I just had to vent! I absolutely dread having to lookup tools on the Sears site. I hate the extreme lag time when you 1st visit the homepage, waiting for all the stupid initial images & animations to load. I hate the time it takes to load everything after that twhen you select the available seach options. I hate the 'Quick-View' that freezes sometimes and you barely even touch the main image on the search results page! I hate the stupid widget/side bar thing on the left hand side of the page...
I hate how when you wanna read reviews, depending on how the server is feeling; you click on "read customer reviews" and it toally throws you to a random item like a stereo or a something COMPLETELY unrelated to what you're looking at!
and most of all...how all the crappy, slow operation slows down evrything else you have going in your IE tab bar!!!!!!!!

Stupid, stupid, stupid Sears!!! :lol_hitti

(ps-It ain't my pc either!)

I pretty much hate everybody's website. Trying to read something on a website is like trying to read a book through a keyhole. Give me an old paper catalog any day over this electronic hard to use ****.

That's why I do all possible shopping in local stores. It is so much easier to browse products on a store shelf than it is to hunt something down in their mired websites.

I totally agree, except when the website list certain info that's not in the book/catalog

Does anyone get their 'Craftsman Club' magazine? I signed up 4 months ago to get the catelog in the mail and all I get is there stupid mails every damn day at 3:30 in the morning. And what perks are there to being in the craftsman club? Any discounts? Or just spam?

Do a search for craftsman socket. You'll get 4357 results and they will all be for Armstrong and Gearwrench.

I'm being facetious but I'm not far off. Trying to find a tool on their site makes me pull my hair out!

If you don't have many tools, the C-man club is a great way to get up to half off on commonly used tools. But since they pretty much repeat their promotions on the same products, you can run out of deals on stuff you really need.

Their web-site does ****, BUT you can frequently use that to your advantage. I certainly do.

Beacuse they haven't figured out the e-commerce thing yet, there are frequent errors with coupon codes and discounts stacking/applying to things they shouldn't. A couple of years ago I got about $450 worth of lawn and garden merchandise for $5 - yes you read that right - five dollars. The result of a $10 coupon that kept applying to every item over $10.

Another more common one is the application of a 10-20% Craftsman club discount against items that it shouldn't.

So yes it *****, but use it to your advantage.

Yep, and it's the same as trying to talk to "customer service." Slow, locks up, no results.

Sears is buyer beware - make sure you want what you're buying because getting any sort of resolution to any problem is nearly impossible.

When the Craftsman Club first came out it used to be that you got all their special sale prices in the catalog, and anything w the Craftsman badge was 10% off during the sale dates. They stopped the latter. There are still good deals in the sale flyers, tho.

I am very confused (could be all the brake cleaner fumes), I had the young man at sears look up loose tools on there web-site (they no longer list them in their cat.) even this computer savy sears worker could not use the web-site!!!

I suspect give them time K-mart will kill the golden goose.

The only real way to use Sears site search is to be specific. I was just looking for some stuff and you have to tell it exactly what you want if you'd like less than 2,345,761 items returned. Such as "3/4 craftsman deep 3/8 socket" gets more or less what you want on the first page and only 529 hits  . Yes, it pretty much *****. With 3-4 more clicks you can narrow it down to 31 items, but the search should have done that already.

lmao! I can't believe how many ppl feel the pain as well.
Mega-dittos on the irrelavant search query too. You try to be specific, but the "Searsbot" just generalizes everything anyway.

I find it weird now that they source other items, via different websites/distributors, and bring those up in your search results. If you wanted it from a different source, wouldn't you obviously do some alternative searching 1st...or am I being too critical :dunno:

jmack: I think I may attempt to do such system-ownage as you did. That's awesome. . .

my favorite is when I search for a specific part number or product number, and all I get back are 5743 different pieces of cabinet hardware and window draperies. Ugh.

I sure like McMaster-Carr's website a whole lot more than their 4" thick catalog. And this is coming from someone who used that Catalog on a daily basis for around 20 years.

I may have to stop visiting so often..........or not.

If your looking for tools go here. WWW.craftsman.com I find it much easier to use. It is like two different companies designed them. Also you can sign on to the craftsmen club and get the fliers. They are trying to save money from sending out the club flyers.

Thats what happens when you use beta software...

I use firefox never have issues.

Of course if I do have to use ie, I do not have every IE tab helper loading, search enhancers, and all the other "helper" ****.

Sure the search function ***** but once you get the hang of it, its not bad.

So being a memeber you're suppose to get 10% off of any craftsman product? If so, just online or in store also?

I just spent a zillion minutes trying to join the Craftsman Club but the screen kept freezing.
Oh and one thing I LOVE about GarageJournal is when you hit a hyperlink it opens a new window so I can jump right back to the thread I was reading before the sojourn. Other forums don't usually have this feature. Obviously the Sears web designers don't moonlight at GJ.

You are not far off at all. Last month I wanted to order 4 different individual replacement sockets and ran into the same thing even when using the correct sequence and abbreviations in the search term.

And as long as we are railing on Sears, is it possible for them to issue a longer retail sales receipt? These things are almost 3' long by the time all is said and done. The actual transaction you just made for a single item occupies the first 12", then there is the 'survey' which occupies the next 12", then there is at least one 'coupon' or sale section for $5 off some obscure product in a section of the store I've never heard of before. Sometimes there are two coupon sections which makes the receipt even longer. Oh well, now I feel better getting that off my chest. :)
