I have a house!!!!!

I got the keys to my first house today.

My house comes complete with a 600Sqft garage.

it also has other things like bedroom, bathrooms and some other rooms too but who really cares about them. The garage is were I will be spending most of my time.

I don't have pics yet due to being stuck at work but the garage has dry wall up and has been taped. My plans are:

Paint the walls and ceiling
Install a heater before winter
Cover the floors in something
Make a soffit shelf
Wire in 240V plugs (one on each side of bay door)
Install a Air Compressor
Set up a welding area
and so on....


As a mechanic I can work on side jobs after work for a little extra income. I am so happy to finally have my OWN place to work out of. Before I was using a buddy’s garage for side jobs and that was in a cramped 1 car garage.

Lol been a member of garage forum for a while now.... just now getting around to owning a garage.

Here is 2 quick shots of the first time I put my car in the garage.

As you can see... lots of room for working on my sports car.

Here is a shot of my tool box with my MR2's engine it. The MR2 is now rebuilt and is just waiting for body work. The tool box is at college were Im taking the toyota focused automotive degree. 6 more weeks till my box is home. Ive had most of my tools at school for the last year and a half. I can't wait to bring them home.

Not to derail your happy train, but do you know for sure the walls are insulated?

You said you're going to put a heater in there and I'd hate to see you have to yank all that stuff out AFTER you've done the walls up. I bought a house and there was NOTHING in the walls. And if your garage is attached, it is common to not insulate all the walls. You'll likely need to check all of them.

Still, tho, congrats are in order and welcome to our world!

No derailing was done by your post. I was going to check the walls for insulated over the next few days.

What is the best way to go about checking? I moved in today and spent all day around so no pics.... I will post some I sware.

To check for insulation you may be able to pull light and switch covers and see if you can see insulation in the walls. In the attic pull the access cover and look in the ceiling. If you can't tell by pulling covers, I suggest drilling about a 1/8" hole in the wall and taking a piece of wire bent at a 90 degree bend, sticking it in the wall and turning it. If you feel resistence it probably has insulation,if not then probably empty. If this doesn't work, cut a small hole in the drywall and look. Good luck and hope you find it insulated.

Its not work on garage per say but this is what I got set up today before work.

My sub woofer is not in this shot but its a:PC13-Ultra DSP.


I had all this in an apartment for over 4 months. Somehow I never got a noise complaint.
