I recently inherited a Snap On 71-15 ratchet. According to the date mark, it was made in 1976.

My Grandfather had owned it, passed on to my father who passed a couple years ago and now I have it. He did not take very good care of it. It was quite rusty. In the process of cleaning it up, I have lost the selector switch. According to SO, the repair kit is no longer available. I don’t need the whole kit, just the selector lever.

Where might I find it?

Someone will have to tell you the correct repair kit number but I put a 32 tooth upgrade repair kit in mine last year and I got the kit from Snap-On.

You can completely rebuild it and upgrade it to a 32 tooth gear. It will have to be converted to quick release though because the QR has a thicker top shoulder like the 71-15's gear. You have to call Snap-On and order the rebuild kit for a S713A 1/2" drive ratchet. It will doesn't come as one kit. You will receive a rebuild kit for a S711 ratchet and a separate quick release gear. The 32 tooth gear, included pawl, spring and ball insert, and selector lever go right in. You won't use the snap on logo plate and the screws are a tad shorter than the 71-15 screws. They will work if you don't have the original ones. I inherited my grandfather's non working 71-15. Snap on wanted me to send it in for a warranty replacement, HELL NO THANK YOU! I started messing around with my ratchet parts and came up with this solution. Now i can continue using grandpa's ratchet with a smoother action. I feel close to him every time I use it.
