I bought the 26" for $299 box a couple days ago...After I read your thread this morning, I took the 26" back to HF....The 26" is nice. However, there are no room for future improvement. I joined the Hf 44" clan

I noticed your drawer configuration is different. Did you swap the larger bottom drawer on the chest for the.smaller ones on the rollaway?

That is exactly what I did. The locking mechanism is different between the top and bottom boxes. Mine are home boxes so I am in no hurry to fix the locking system although it is on the project list for the near future.

If you're so concerned over this, you should go buy the OP a box more to your liking with your money

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense!

It's obvious you have no idea what I was talking about. Pay attention to what's really going on once in awhile, not watching ET, reading People, and playing your playstation.

So what would it take to switch the locking system around?

Makes more sense then you whining about what other people are buying with their money. It's their choice not yours. This is supposed to be a forum for tool discussion, not political ideology

If you don't like it either put up or shut up and mind your own business.

And another note, speaking for myself and not others, after spending 11 years in US Army and seeing my share of the ****, no need to extend thanks to us that have served. If you really want to thank somebody, thank a widow

Coming from someone who is Very involved with Military Veterans whether its assisting with Doctors appointments, spending time at the VA home etc... That statement makes absolutely ZERO sense to me.

Well I'm sure NC will be back to help you, but in the meantime let me try....

My take would be that he could have joined the military as a good career choice and was OK with the conditions, risks, pay, etc. and he probably would accept any extras, official recognition, awards, etc. as being nice to have, but he is not looking for random thanks from the members of this site.

On the other hand, military widows, if their primary interest was in supporting their spouses, did not have quite the same range of freedoms in choosing their road to disaster that their guy did.

And so a little thanks can be seen as a token of sympathy and understanding.

Well i deleted my Response since it wasnt prevalent to the Discussion at hand but since you quoted me ill Respond.

Coming from someone who's has a long history of Family who served there country including my Late Father and Grandfather and being around Military Veterans i can say with great confidence that while most of them where Honored to Serve there country and Dont need to be Thanked for such duties. The Majority of them apreciate the Outpour of Help and Thanks they get, Especially as they get older and cant do the simple things in life that they once could. I can Respect NC's wishes on the Subject.. I have no problem with "His" Opinion, It just doesnt Mesh with what ive seen personally. I still get chills up and down my spine when i see Everday people stop what there doing whether its at a Ball game or a Airport and Salute/Shake there Hands/Carry there bags which IMO is a Sign of Respect and Thanks. L4G didnt Thank NC, He offered his thanks to another member.. I see No problem with that. Obviously.. NO Doubt about it... Any Family who lost a Member whether it was someones Wife, Kid, Cousin, Uncle, Aunt, Mother, Father etc... has endured the Ultimate Sacrifice for our Country.

Have to make a hole in the back of the wide deep and narrow deep drawers and rivit the little catch in the hole. Then on the two wide shallow drawere and two narrow shallow drawers I need to install some catches and done.

Again, I'll say what I feel, and if you don't like it you know where you can go.

I didn't see anything in the rules of use of only posting in threads where you agree with everyone else.

If you don't see the problem with celebrating buying Chinese manufactured goods, you're obviously not very bright.

I wasn't extending thanks to you, btw, so don't assume anything.

Anyone think there's something a bit off about celebrating buying stuff made in China?

What's crazy to me is that they can sell this for $350. The last time I looked at one of those boxes, it really wasn't that bad a product.

You'd think by now that something like toolbox manufacturing would be so automated that the only labor cost, besides sticking feed stock into some big machine, would be final assembly maybe.

It's easy to blame the lack of pollution controls or 50 cent/hr labor or something, but $350? Jeez. To top it all off, they have to push it across the Pacific. When the price difference, for a given quality level, is something like 4:1 or 5:1 for domestic vs. import, something odd is happening.

Its not odd, it's simple, the cost of metal is lower in countries without government strangulation like the EPA, labor is cheaper in places where 8th grade drop outs dont expect a union to get them $28/hr, and, sadly, the massive container ship gets better milage than a snap-on truck. :)

But seriously, the real issue is profit margin, in America we gave up the idea of profit over a range of products and now expect to make the maximum profit per piece. The tool companies could sell them cheaper, its in their interest not to, that way its harder to buy, harder to aquire, and therefore generates more desire, like an exotic car, except less engineering.

If you were to take a 'generic' tool box of good quality and reverse engineer it, even as high a quality of the HF box, and buy a couple brake machines and hire a half dozen good welders and get the roller slides from the best provider possible, just like the other guys do (wink), then paint the box and wrap it in vinyl that says USA on it, you can sell them for about 20% more than HF, that would be about 1/8th of Snap-On and you could sell as many as you could make as fast as you could make them, expanding as you go.

Then when you get big enough OSHA will cripple you, the union will make your labor force cost 6x as much, you will discover that people will actualy pay stupid amounts of money for your boxes, you'll decide if the government and your workers should get rich, so should you, and you'll be a tool-truck box too.

I'm glad it's simple.

So what's the breakdown on the $350 box?

...hang on, don't answer that. I'll move this to another forum.

Well in retrospect expressing my viewpoints on this subject on this web-site isn’t the best of venues. This is a forum for tools and I did make a mistake introducing an off topic statement and I do apologize for such. I’ll be glad to discuss this further via pm as not to take away from the intended purpose of this thread

I thought this was Garage Journal.....not Kindergarten Journal.

To the OP and others who have the HF 42" box. They are great boxes for the money and should last a long time if taken care of.I see nothing wrong with buying one if its all you can afford.Hell most of my tools are HF and Kobalt they do the job and thats all that matters too me.Any tool will break if abused and not used properly.
