I'm a petulant DIY'r who refuses (on principle) to pay someone to handle even the most complicated tasks. And since this is my first house, almost everything I've tackled so far I'm being exposed to for the very first time.
I've always been anxious about flooring though. I've read practically every blog post Shea has posted at allgaragefloors (Hi Shea!) -- and even concluded that I bought the wrong flooring for the look / durability that I want.
Through a series galactically aligned events, a neighbor has agreed to help me lay my garage floor. One of his degrees is in construction engineering (or something of this nature) and he's been the hands-on worker / general contractor flipping houses for about 7 years. I'm not at all concerned that he knows how to lay a floor professionally and to code. I do have some slight concerns that he's in a different mindset for laying floor since 100% of what he does is residential foot traffic and he's not laying this stuff with detail like it's his own house (it's a flip). I'll work this out with him though.
So, I bought tile. Should be here next week. On a side note, you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find plain ole' PEI 4 porcelain in straight black and white. I must have visited 5 stores in my area and their offerings for this stuff is marginal at best -- hence the HD purchase.
I ordered 13 boxes of each color. I realize you can just use math, but I needed to see and count the tile to make sure I was ordering enough and not too much (see: "anxiety" above). I measured everything, transferred the measurements to sketchup, then marked up a printed copy.
My neighbor has a limited window to help me because he has a new house to start on in a couple of weeks.
So... here goes nothing.
EDIT: there are moments when the links above show an imgur error. attached.
