Went on the hunt for old stuff last week and found this old Drill press
Does anyone know how old it is or have any info on who made it?

Don: any writing on the arms or anywhere? i have this Canedy-Otto bench drill press that is from the 20's sitting on my bench that works as well as my Walker Turner bench DP. i'm pretty sure the belt on my Canedy-Otto is leather, but it might be old vinyl.

it looks like there might be a huge weld on the back of the arm or is that just rust. you can replace that rubber belt with a vinyl belt like some of the members have done so take a look at some of the old drill presses in this thread for ideas and maybe PM the members that put on the new belts so you can find out how to if you don't already know.

Here's what I found out this morning.
It was made by Mechanics machine co. in 1895
It has a leather belt on it.
The company later was sold to Rockford drilling machine company that focused on making automotive parts. In 1928, the company became a founding division of Borg-Warner Corp.

Interesting to research these old machines
Now to restore it and find a place for it in the garage.
