10 amp breakers have existed for a long time. We have several at work that have been in service longer than I've worked there.

I've installed a pretty fair number of these in the control panels that I build.
I've also installed then in normal panels to feed stuff like the fire alarm, phone equipment and other stuff that should not be turned off.
Not many people will turn off a 10 amp breaker when they're trying to locate an outlet circuit.

really? I would think that the average person has no idea of ratings on breakers ,a nd anything is up for grabs when looking for a circuit.
atthe volunteer warehouse, we have a lock on the breaker for the alarm so no one inadvertently plays with it. we have switches for everything, but the panel is right in view & right beside the rear entry door, so it's easy to " play " with it. not that any one has, but just in case ...

That's quite likely true for the average everyday person with no electrical knowledge but the majority of my installations are commercial/industrial. Most of those guys know not to mess with something like that...........most of them...........
They are and have been a standard size breaker for a long time I used a few of them on a horizontal bandsaw, which where removed from a decommissioned machine used to make rice farts.
Some 14/2 NM sheathed copper clad aluminum cable needs to be used with it.

Good reason to lock the electrical rooms in a building. I had a guy poking around at a 120/240 load center trying to find the breaker for the lighting which was coming off a 3-phase panel.

With the switch to LED lighting where a. 10 amp circuit can feed several 13 watt cans I can see where they would be appropriate.
Rice Farts, AKA rice cakes.
They're allowed by the 2023 NEC. still no 16 gauge way to wire them up, though. I guess that'll have to wait for '26.
Now where is the 16/2 NM-B ?
