I know.... help with a Harbor Freight Chest update

I have the US General Pro - item #68787 In my Service van. (I work on forklifts). Anyway, I damaged the 2 slides on the long bottom drawer. I called HF Customer Service, they put me over to Tech Support and I was told that HF has a policy that if the item cost less than 399.00 no replacement parts are available. And my chest sells for 349.00. Sorry......

Does anybody know where I can find a set of ball bearing slides that will fit?

Thanks guys.

Must be a new policy because I have bought slides from them in the past for the same box. The box even has a parts list and phone number in the packaging with it.

Yeah and I've seen guys get replacement lock/keys for them also. For free (as far as I could tell).

I can get replacement struts for the $299 list / $169 on sale 5 dwr. service cart all day, so I call HF ********.

They should exist as replacement parts.

If not, go to a local HF, grab the owners manual out of the equal and current floor model they have for the same box and write down the part no's for the slides. Then call again and get the current slide offering for that box.

My HF 5 dwr cart is 7 years old and parts are available from HF all day long.
On my dime mind you. but still available.

I had to replace the slides on my drawers in my service truck. We got them from grainger, they have a good selection of slides. Just may have to drill a hole or two.

I do not know when the policy started, but my instructions have a statement on them, No replacement parts available. I called customer service, and she said, it says no parts available, but I'll hook you up to Tech Support. They answered and looked it up and he told me "that HF has a policy that if the item cost less than 399.00 no replacement parts are available. And your chest sells for 349.00. Sorry......" I said, so I'm sitting here with a 350.00 box that can't be fixed? So I asked him can you point me in the right direction. He said that Snap on, and Craftsman has boxes that are made the same their slides might work......

I will double check if there was a manual for it, I don't remember mine coming with one.

Maybe call back and ask for slides for the bottom box. It sells for more than $399.00 and they are the same as far as I can tell.

How bad are they damaged? Slides are pretty easy to straighten/repair.

If you order generic slides, be cautious with the sizes as they don't always measure the size in any way you might expect it measured.

It is my bottom drawer, I am a forklift tech, and that drawer is the one that holds my hammers, break bars, and other heavy stuff. I was making a left hand turn and was stuck in the middle of the intersection, with the light changing, and time running out before the camera took my photo......

I guned it, and I guess I did not make sure it was closed the last time I used it. It slid open, and with me gunning it, and all the weight, the drawer came all the way out, broke the stops, and balls went everywhere.......

Really pissed at my self.......

Find a few of the balls and some hardware store may have replacements in the right size, not like its a precision instrument, bend til it works or breaks.

personally, i think it would be easier to get replacement BB slides than to deal with HFT who are obviously not interested in helping out. you can even get heavier duty BB slides so that all your heavy tools in that drawer will work better. hell, get 3 sets if you think you can use it. you can just drill some holes and use some steel pop rivets and good to go...

Well been a while, but here is a successful update, and even a improvment.....

I went to the website, and got the item number for the 13 Drawer, Roller Cabinet. It was above the 400.00 thresthold, so they would sell me the parts I needed. I got a nice tech guy who sent me a email with then needed info...

Here is the info if anyone else needs it.

Frank,

Thank you for your email inquiry. The part you are looking for is one that we carry as a stock item. Unfortunately, you can not order it on the web site. You can however order this directly from the inbound sales department by calling 1-800-423-2567. Please allow 8-10 business days for delivery. If you chose to send in a check, please ensure you include shipping and tax with the total cost. Our shipping rates can be located at www.harborfreight.com. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

SKU# ...Part# ...Description ...... Price (plus tax & shipping)

13605 02 90320 DRAW SLIDE 1 PC $9.99 ea

It says 1 piece so I ordered 2. Well I received 2 sets, so I had 4 slides. I figured I might need the other later, so I keep them.

I installed the 2 and they fit correctly, then I noticed, that the drawer, and box was drilled for a second set. So I installed the second set. It works perfect!

So not only is it repaired, and my work van is now cleaned up, but the box is better than ever....:D

Thanks for the pointers guys....:rocker:
