I lost a wrench...

9/16, thin, that fit my PC7424 polisher. Over a year ago.



Looked for it 3 or 4 times over the past year or so. All that accomplished was that all the other wrenches that fit various grinders etc ended up in one draw.



Needed it because the 5in pad on the 7424 came apart. Didn't buy a new pad for a while & when I finally did I bought 2x 5in & 3x 3in velcro backers for it.


Used it a while back with a 3in pad, used a regular 9/16 wrench & that was fine because it was a small pad with room to get a regular wrench in & out.. Today I used the same wrench with a 5in pad & it was a minor cluster getting the wrench out.


So I decide to hit Lowes, Home Cheapo & Horrible Fright in an effort to find a new thin 9/16 wrench.
Lowes: Don't have any. Line to exit via the garden Dept was 20 people, inside the store all the other check outs had one person at them .. bit odd. No wrench.

Home Cheapo: There was a line to get IN the store, didn't even park the car.
Horrible Fright: Walked right in, found what appeared to be a thin enough wrench but it was part of a set.... for $16. Bought it.


Get home, ****** is just slightly too thick & won't fit. Arsebiscuits!


Decide to take one more look in the garage for the OEM wrench. Open the drawer where all the other tool wrenches are, along with a pile of air tools. Start moving them about & find the OEM wrench!!


But WTF? Been missing for at least a year, find it in a drawer that I go to every time I go to my toolbox & had actually searched for this wrench several times.


So from now on that particular wrench is going to live in the small plastic box with all the PC7424 backers.. & I think I'll keep the HF wrenches. They have that spline drive on the box end & some odd looking jaws of the OE so they "kinda ratchet"

You need to clean house in those drawers . I removed 3 sets of Craftsman pliers from the pliers drawer. I only use the knipex and the craftsman’s were making it hard to find them. I put the craftsmans in a box. When my daughters get married maybe future son in law will need pliers or if someone needs a set of pliers they are in the excess box.

The wrench came out of hiding since it felt it was being replaced by cheap imports.

It was in the back corner of the drawer almost completely hidden under the drawer liner under an old air impact I haven't used in years.

Those little wrenches you use to tighten down the collets in a die grinder. Mine now have red or yellow tape on them !

(1/4" drive, 10mm socket has yellow tape also ! )

Several years ago, spent hours looking for my tile nippers. I knew I had just recently seen them, but be damned of I could find them. Usually all that stuff is in a box dedicated to ceramics .
Went to supplier & bought a new set. went back to the van, dropped them in the doghouse, and guess what ? There was the old tile nippers I was looking for.

There is a distinct reason I have: my main tool chest with all my goodies, my old work road box with enough tools to do most jobs, a tool box of so so stuff I have in the back of my pick up truck, and an assortment of **** I could assemble into at least another 1-2 tool sets (these are all mechanics sets btw). Ive lost stuff totally over the years and had to replace it, but even then I still have multiples.



Reminds me..really wanting that williams wrench set I saw the other day lol

I'm pretty good about not misplacing stuff in my garage. I bought a 5/8" carbide end mill, it disappeared & I didn't even get to use it once. Eventually thought I must have been trippin & never bought it to begin with. Ended up buying a new one.

Well more than 2 yrs later I found the damn thing in my box of acid brushes. How the F it got in there I have no idea, I don't even store those type of tools in that area. Damn garden gnomes or gremlins!

I’ve been missing a a 10mm Bonney wrench for a few months. Was pretty bummed because I use it all the time. I found it yesterday in a different wrench draw. One of my friends must have put it back in the wrong spot.

My pc 7424 polisher broke. I really need to fix it.

To me it sounds like you need to make the obligatory sacrifice to the Tool Gods, once the appropriate sacrifice was made, they returned the lost tool...

Can't tell you the number of cheap wrenches I've "adapted" using a bench grinder, a die grinder, an O/A torch, and a hammer and vise. Still have a 6" Crescent Wrench that I ground the jaws to probably 3/16 or 1/8" to fit the nut under a lock nut... I thought being that thin it would fail almost immediately, but I still have the thing.

10 mm deep went missing two weeks ago - and recently re-materialized.

5/16" combo went missing - found that under some spare lug bolts on the bench yesterday. That 5/16 is small.

15 mm deep is still missing. DM me if you know where it is.

I have the same PC I lost mine. I ordered a new one from ebay. And of course I found the old one before the new one came in.

After doing a few jobs that required 3 or 4 different set ups on my grinder I bought a bunch more grinders when ever I saw them for $10 or less so one would always have a cup brush, a zip disc, a grind wheel, a flex pad, etc etc and I wouldn't have to switch back and fourth all the time. I'd also burned a few out so I spanned the size range too, 4", 4.5" 5", 7" and even a 9" and started paying up to $50 for good brand names on the bigger ones. I ended up with different brands too, so of coarse the wrenches are all different too. I solved the wrench issue by hanging all the various wrenches on the wall at the back of the bench. It works great.

Here's my solution; a piece of hardware chain and a couple of split rings. Works great and I can still use both at the same time for the die grinder [emoji6]

drawer full of those flat stamped sheet metal wrenches, and I still occasionally have to make (or grind down) my own. they are definitely worse than 10mm sockets

I know I am jinxing myself here but I have yet to lose a 10mm. Thank fully too because just about every nut and bolt on my bimmer is a 10mm.
