Friends Dad was throwing out some junk. Took apart this old milk pump, got some nice bits from the inside and made this cool lamp from the base.

Yeah, me too! That said, we sold the big house and moved across country this last summer. In the year prior to the move all my "treasures and treasured junk" just became "stuff" to get rid of. I guess if you never plan on leaving the place it is ok to keep accumulating "stuff". There is a certain beauty to leaving it to your kids to clean up. It was actually kind of refreshing to do the purge, but man, I got rid of a lot of cool gear:(

KNGKONG. Those two red caps in the top of the photo on post #25 look like 2.5" caps off of a fire hydrant and might be brass. Just sayin :)

As for what is the original piece of junk? Id say its a early style hitch or support arm connector from the back of a CAT bulldozer.

Cool. You know if you get rid of it you'll need it. I love looking through 'real' antique stores to find useful stuff like that. But most antique stores are filled with over priced furniture now no real junk to speak of. It's much harder to pick stuff up off the curb since everyone's now trolling the neighborhoods for scrap.

I found an old bathroom vanity in nice shape on the side of the road for the garbage. decided to take out the mirror and replace it with pegboard....now it is where I keep all my screws, nails, etc., with screwdrivers on the front.
