So I was using my router in a routine way and made a bad mistake. The bit caught before I was ready and resulted in a catastrophic failure. I feel like I reacted well but I would like to share this to remind people to stay safe in your garage.

Think I wouldn't have moved the work piece away until the router had run down to a stop which is just good practice using a router table in that way. Have had cutters walk out but never completely.
That could have been a lot worse, routers are a tool not to take lightly.

The bit was broken off and laying on top of the lumber when he lifted it. Still a bad practice.

I was mortising some door hinges with a small one hand router which I do regularly , my foot was inadvertently on the cord I suspect. the router became unbalanced in my hand and I dropped it. natural reaction was to grab it so it wouldn't hit the floor & damage it.
you guessed it, 4 or 5 stitches later in my finger ....

I was not sure if the bit broke or just came out of the router.
Bad news any way you look at it, glad no one was hurt.

Yea, I hate it when that happens. I have over 30 years experience in carpentry and it still happens occasionally.

I was dropping a pickup truck bed trailer back onto my dad's suburban while moving him into his new place. Didn't think the drive way was on enough of a incline that the trailer would get away from me by picking it up and then walking it a few inches forward. I was wrong. It get away from me and by instinct I tried to stop it by putting my hand right on the tongue of the trailer. slammed it right into the truck bumper. That is probably one of the weirdest pain experiences I've ever had. I get a shooting pain through me just thinking about it. But hey I didn't dent the truck bumper :lol_hitti

Dad made me go in for xrays and I didn't hurt anything. Just a MASSIVE bump on my hand and black and blue for a few weeks

I hate trying to route a pattern that touches or us very close on two sides. Same thing when trying to enlarge a metal hole with a close fitting burr bit.
