I need to do some work on my boat which has a Cummings diesel engine in it.
I don't need tool truck level wrenches ( I'd like them, but can't afford them)
so I'm looking for a metric set from 8-23.
They have to be 12 point, and not short.

Is Tekton above or below Craftsman in terms of quality?

I don't really care about COO, except that they have to be decent quality.
I can't afford to round off the head of a bolt while down in the bilge.

I have been to a couple of Pawn shops, but nothing really great there.

Any advice?

If you CAN NOT round a bolt off then getting a design with a flank drive open end is important. There is a video on youtube showing how easy open ends slip on the bolt. Then they switched to a WrightGrip wrench and it broke the bolt before it stripped / rounded / spread.

Corrosion, salt etc.....

I have the SO FD+ and the Carlyle. I think the Carlyle is A LOT of bang for the buck. and they have the teeth in the open end as well.

Like SASO says, if open end is important. I wouldn't dare start using lesser quality slippin, slippery, smooth, open ends on a CTD on the high seas while tryin to get YFT.

I also have the badass GearWrench XL 120xp flex ratcheting spline drives. I believe in them 110%. I think $357 shipped for SAE and MM set.

Personally, I have the Proto ASDs, the WrightGrips and FD+. Best bang for the buck are the Wrights. That's what I'd go with to guard against rounding one off.

The newer craftsman made in China may be tempting and it maybe screaming at you but they are junk. I bought a set and ended up giving them to my nephews to play with.

Isn't it strange that the entire modern world was built, and much of it since rebuilt, before anyone came up with the idea of teeth in the open end of a wrench ?
How did those poor souls ever manage ?

Pipe wrenches?

My vote would be for Wright as well. If it absolutely, positively has to work, no excuses, Wright is a top quality wrench and much less expensive than Snap-On. I also like my SKs but they don't have the serrated open ends and they're about the same price to buy new.

The wheel? The Colt? The automobile? The computer?

Shall we cease to invent? Come to a halt?

I have a good selection of , facom , snappy, mac and britool. Now my goto spanners nearly everytime are either my allen usa or my k-d usa, these are my go to sets, ive never rounded or stripped the head of a bolt, they are also not flankdrive or toothed in any way shape or form. If i cant get enough torque with the open end id spin it around and use the ring.

I find it strange that a man owns a boat with a Cummins diesel, yet can't afford decent tools. Stranger still, can't spell Cummins.

In short.... YES
As long as you get the better line of wrenches from Tekton. (the ones that comes in the red or black wrench rack. Not the ones in the rolls.)

I'm just going to plagiarize my review off Amazon....

Without a doubt THE best wrenches you can get at this price. (maybe twice the price)
So far they are strong and durable, the finish is absolutely flawless (better than any of my Gearwrenches for example)

Nice thick comfortable beams, great fit on the fasteners. Very nice rack they're in too.

I believe they're made by Genius for Tekton.
I can't say it for sure, but they certainly look identical, and the Tektons are about 1/2 the price.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
I tried to order the Wrights from Amazon but the ones I wanted were backordered and unavailable on Prime.
So ended up ordering the Williams MWS super combo 10 piece set.
High polish.
Should be here this Friday!
Thanks again!

I was very happy with the Williams....they are very good wrenches.

Of course I was upgrading from Gearwrench and Crafstman RPs.....and a small set of Wrights (non Wright Grip)......so I dont have much for comparison.

This is the first 'real person' review I have seen on these. Glad I came to this thread.

If I were buying new wrenches I would buy Wright. I don't recall the OP saying anything about the open end but that he needs 12pt box ends. I prefer 6pt but if I ever upgrade my 12pts I would be looking to Wright for those also.
