I bought a dirt cheap one a few years ago. It is real basic and only cost around $15.00. The one you're looking at is nice though. If you get it, tell us how you like it.

been looking at similar ones for a while now, I need one with advance timing like that. I think my advance is not correct on my car. Definitively let us know how well it works.

My old Penske light finally died a couple of years ago, and I replaced it with an Actron CP-7519 "Timing Analyzer" (fancy name for dial-back timing light), was around $70.00 or so; makes mapping and re-curving centrifugal advance systems a snap - no need for timing tapes, marking balancers, etc. They make the Sears dial-back light - same guts, different case. www.actron.com .

Looks pretty good, although i'd prefer a self-powered light... don't like having quite that many wires hanging around the fan. i don't have any OTC electrical tools, but i do have a heavy duty wheel drum puller from them, and it's a very nice piece of work- i would certainly buy more tools from them based on the quality.

Which Snap-on ? putting the gearbox back in this weekend and its time to get serious and get a timing light with advance, I rebuilt my distributor and I am pretty sure the advance is off even the car ran pretty dammed good (before I broke the ******)

oh and thanks SpeedShop, for saving me $18 if I get this one :) I tend to prefer Snapon but those suckers are BIG money

What is the difference between the Snap-on MT2261 and the MT2261AP ?

On the Snap-on website all they list is the MT2261AP but on ebay and everywhere else I have looked its just MT2261. Is there a difference ? I am guessing new technology but can't even confirm that. Its $516 from Snap-on and $460 from my local Snap-on guy, looks like they sell around $200 +/- $50 on ebay.

Trying to figure out if the $100 one that started this thread is good enough or not, I can buy several of those for one Snap-on. I like staying with major brands, they will be around to repair things and are usually better quality to begin with.

One of the former mechanics down at the shop (idiot and thieving relative of the owner) wasn't paying attention to what he was doing, and ran the spark plug grabber through the fan. It yanked off the end. I then won a otc timing light off of ebay for them, and brought the Snap~on one home (Snap man wanted $100 to fix it), after about a year, they had the replacement ends. Picked mine up for $22. I also see them occasionally at garage sales. So keep your eye out.
