IMG_9839.jpegGood afternoon,

Trying to deal with wood beetles. Need to get it behind me so I can get on with finish out. I sprayed 4 gallons of Timbor on my shop today. 8 gallons at the one-to-one mix ratio.

I started with a little Ryobi 18 V sprayer. While a lot of times those little cheap Ryobi tools punch above their weight, this was not one of them. It was misery.

After a gallon I switched to a Home Depot 2 gallon pump sprayer. It was many times better. But still a pain in the ***.

I finished the jobbwith the hand pump sprayer. Going forward I’ll need to spray some more timbor. Maybe 8 more gallons. I’ll also use the sprayer for general spray stuff. No finish work.

I’ve got a small compressor. Would somebody recommend a set up for what I’m doing. The Timbor unmixed is a little bit thick, like paint, but pretty watery once you mix it in with a gallon of water.

I don’t mind something cheap from Harbor freight. I can think of maybe a half dozen jobs for the sprayer before I’m done with it, it would be good if they could hold at least a couple of gallons.

Also, it does need some reach to get the high walls.

Any recs appreciated.

Thanks

I've used a Smith Contractor pump sprayer for a thickish undercoating that was thinned with paint thinner. It now gets used for weed spraying. Around $90.

I’m not familiar with the purple HVLP. More details please?

In general, I don’t know anything about sprayers, paint or otherwise.

Shot an entire house with one of these and used a cheap very old HF compressor. Unthinned latex paint worked great after a bit of adjustment. Would buy one again.

The 4 gallon back pack sprayer might work for you. Just be aware to check all connections are tight before putting on your. Back. I need long reach to spray some of those “wet and forget” and didn’t check connections properly, got the stuff all over my back. The spray wand is long you can buy another and make an adaptor to get about 8’ length.

I think chapin sprayers are also a thing. Not sure, their homedepot version is ok not great. They have commercial version suppose to be better.

I just have the hf 4 gallon ones. But did consider the Chapin

And yes ryobi *****, I have their sprayer and 2 of their fogger all sucked after first use.

Also if you are buying any pump or garden sprayers at HF or HD they have some weird return policies since 2019. Make sure you read that fine print before going to the register.

One thing I’ve done it put a tire valve on a pump sprayer and charge it with the CO2 tank. Works great. Lots of pressure and stream. On some you have to tape shut the pressure relief valve.

…. but there is a non-zero chance it explodes. 😂

I had one if those hand held 1qt? Sprayers blow in my hand. Made my ears ring like I gun went off and seriously thought I lost my hand.
Noidea WTF happened, I had pumped it up (by hand) a few mins before.

Another vote for a backpack sprayer here. I've run hundreds of gallons through mine over the years spraying weeds in my rock areas and getting rid of dandelions in the lawn.
Mine are 20 years old Swissmex brand, but I have no idea of the quality of current sprayers.
