I need a different air hammer!

I've been "coping" with a Porter Cable PSH-1 Air Hammer for too long. It just doesn't have enough power.

I can pay up to $200 to get a better one, can you recommend a good (more powerful) air hammer?

It'll be run from a Devilbiss 30 gallon 3.5 hp (6.8 SCFM @ 90 PSI). Thanks!

I have a 60's vintage C-P that I've rebuilt at least three times.... model 747? Kicks the **** out of any other one I've ever seem... drives out 75 year old king pins from early Ford axles in no time.

Looks way nice, that is for sure. I've heard over and over that this is the one to get.

How about a used one for $200??

Check ebay, there are 4 or 5 PH3050 on there for under 200.00 right now.

IMHO.......used air tools are bad news, even a great air tool like the PH3050, they are usually out of their 2 year warranty, and if they were not oiled frequently, they can be weak, when bought used. much more of a gamble then a hand tool. You will never get dealer parts service for a used air tool.
If one wants a PH3050, I recommend just taking it on the chin, and paying for the new one.

Yes, used air tools are a **** shoot. Don't buy one without being able to try it and don't pay much for one unless you can take it back.
No, it's almost impossible to tell if they're any good til they've been used hard for a few jobs.
Maybe, look around locally for a while. I got a steal on a used PH3050 and it is sufficient to my use. The good news is the PH3050 is easy to disassemble for a look inside and the most likely failure parts are inexpensive.

I own a PH3050 and it really is as powerful as people say. But it is expensive and buying used is always a toss up.

If you don't want to fork over the cash for the Snap-On, another great hammer that I've used is the Matco MT1815. The Matco guy let me try it for 1 month just to give him some feedback on it and it can do preety much anytyhing the PH3050 can do.

•Integrated Quick chuck on barrel.
•Variable speed trigger for control. Metal valve assembly for increased durability.
•Lighter fluted barrel for easier use.
•Spring vibration dampening system for comfortable use over extended periods of time.
•Center handle design for superior balance during use

my buddy in the bay next to me got this one. i always ask to borrow it when mine aint man enough for the job.

that being said, i have not used any big name air hammers to compare it to. i have only ever used el cheapo ones.

I wouldn't worry about buying a used air hammer on ebay.As long as it's a relatively recent model,repair parts are readily available and the problematic parts are pretty cheap.Other than a couple discs inside there's not much to them.

Well said autoace, I must have just had good luck buying air tools off ebay. The only problems I have encountered have been easy fixes thanks to snappy's online parts catalog.

How about an IR 121? It is a copy of an older Snap-On air hammer, I cannot think of the old model #,feel free to jump in on the model if anyone has one. Anyway, this is a good air chisel and for the money a good buy. Look around

I have a CP 727... this is a 717. Looks like the same as mine... might give it a try. As I said earlier my 727 is VERY old and kicks ***.

snap on may have relabled the IR gun at one time

One thing is for sure, avoid one with the spring on the end. Pain to change bits.
