I'm not sure if I should trust that jack. I'm not afraid of spending 5-6 or more but I want quality

I have the Arcan 3.25 ton model from Costco (paid $99 ~3 yrs ago). I think it is the same as the XL35 model (3.5 ton) which is available from Northern Tool ($189). It goes down to 3.5" and is a great jack - I use it on my Miata and my 4Runner. My local Costco doesn't sell that model anymore - they now carry the aluminum version which is also low profile but has a slightly lower capacity and lift height. Price is $100 - 110 I think.

I bought an Arcan xl2t a few weeks ago from northern tool. I was trying not to let price be the deciding factor between that and some of the more expensive ones, but it really does seem like a quality piece.

I have an Arcan non low-profile jack that I have been using for years. It has been a great jack for me so far. No issues at all.

I bought the HF low profile 4 ton rapid lift jack. use it to lift my 95 dodge ram 2500 4x4. handles that job with no issues. this jack is also low enough to fit under my 89 civic. been using it for about a year with zero complaints. it replaced an older 3 ton orange HF jack that lasted over ten years.

I have the harbor freight 2.5 ton low profile. No problem with trustworthyness here, lifted low VWs and a 1/2 ton ram with no problem. If I were going to use it more, I'd probably go with a NAPA one, otherwise lots of guys go with the Arcan obviously.

i have the HF hi-lift 2 ton jack.. the one with the t - handle and release knob on the handle too.. i bought it, and use it for my 95 f350 diesel dually.. it was the highest lifting model they had. it does fine with lifting the big truck (one corner at a time). i would have liked a 3 ton instead, but i had to choose between a 3ton, or more lift.. i went with more lift.. so fars it been great, no probelms at all, and its really a nice jack..

The Arcan jacks are all made in China and sold in different countries under different names.

Do a search for Arcan on www.alibaba.com to see some options.

I've got one at home. VERY useful. Aluminium is lighter than steel and the low profile gets under lowered cars.

The HF jacks are solid, but you shouldn't be trusting any jack. This is why you use jack stands.

Exactly! It was painful being in Sears the other day overhearing a customer insisting to the salesperson they don't need jack stands along with their new jack because they just use a couple cinder blocks. Ugh...

That said, I'm a big fan of Arcan but nothing wrong with Harbor Freight jacks.

I have one of the older Arcan XL35 (?) 3.5 ton steel low-pros and it has done a better job clearing lowered coupes than my friend's HF/Pittsburgh low-pro jacks. The thing is built like a tank- very high quality. It is very heavy, but the local Costco garage has a few as their shop jacks when they are required and in the last 3-4 years haven't broken any of them. Couldn't recommend more.
