Can someone suggest a simple 120VAC timer that will run a fan for 5 minutes every hour or every two hours, 24/7. The fan draws no more than 1A. If the power goes off, I don't want to have to re-program it.

Drop by your friendly big box store,Leviton will have a selection of easy to program and install timers that will fit in your standard deep electrical box.

How long do you want the fan to run?

Idec makes a great timer that sets up in few seconds. I use them all the time. But if you want off for an hour then on for 10 min. Then you would have to use 2 of them. Look on their website under timers. They might have one you can set for a on/off setup

Or if you want to spend serious money, I think Grainger has several that are designed for just that purpose... (maybe, look for 'purge timer'?)

How about one of the cheapie timers you use for Christmas lights? Most only come with two sets of on-off pins, so you'd just get some extra pins to turn it off and on more frequently.

You'd just need to turn it to the correct time to reset it after a power failure.

cheap way would be christmas light timer, expensive way would be leviton programmable timer, super-expensive way would be industrial controls.

I would lean towards the christmas light timer as Mattlt suggested. You can get them for outdoors too.

You can use the kind of timers that I had permanently installed for timing my pool cleaner and pump.

I had a need for that EXACT timer situation on a manure composting system, my wife found this timer and it works great, other than if the horses get in and knock it over and step on it, it will catch fire. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00286QNDM/?tag=atomicindus08-20 CAP ART-DNe adjustable recycle timer, as used in hydroponics. I have it turn on/off a blower as used in bouncy castles, blows air through horse poo in bins and turns it into nice compost.

I don't remember what brand it is, but I've got one with a digital display, and three (or maybe just two) outlets, that I used to use for my block heater in the winter. I'd just have it turn on at 3:00am, and turn off at 7:00am, but I remember there being options for something similar to what you're looking into...

I think I got it at wal-mart.

Well, if you'd like a more powerful solution you should check out the automation direct DL05 series plc. They are a touch over $100 and offer a ton of flexibility with the option to have relay outs etc. The sky is the limit.
