Friction ball lets go too easily. Collar lock extensions dont look practical to me.
I would think proto makes them but i cant find them on their site. Only hex to square drive.
Who makes such a thing?

Think industrial tools and brands. Proto, Blackhawk, and maybe Armstrong used to make them. I picked up some vintage Blackhawk 1/2" drive sockets recently that had pin locks on them.

You have to have sockets with holed drilled all the way thru from the outside to the square drive for pin type extensions/drives. Never seen 1/4" drive sockets with these holes in them.

I want the pin types just for my industrial magnetic snap on sockets. They have holes just like impact sockets. I hate dropping twenty something dollar sockets in doors.
proto more than likely has what i need, since I know they can make one.
I'm seeing if anyone went through the same dilema and had a part number readily available.

I use the Blue Point collar locking 1/4" extensions with the magnetic sockets and my 1/4" impact swivel sockets. To me, there's nothing impractical about them. It's much quicker/easier to just pull back the collar then to stick a pick in the hole to release the pin. Plus, unlike pinned extensions, they also work with chrome sockets.

I have no problem using any of my locking collar extensions (SK, VIM, Link Tools) with sockets that have pin holes. Including the 1/4" Grey Pneumatic Duo-Sockets (which have detents in addition to pin holes). My favorites are the Link Tools extensions, but I got them for a song.
