Probably for replacement lug nuts when the caps started peeling off...................................Someone got upsold on Wheel locks for factory wheels.
In my cars, the key is with the jack, under the seat in the truck and SUV. Shop always looks everywhere else first.I looked under the spare tire and found the socket, what are the chances.

And wheel steeling thieves have all the keys anyway, wheel locks have become a bit redundant**** wheel locks... Most vehicle owners still have no idea what wheel locks are or what a wheel lock key/socket is or where it's located when we ask. They also don't tell the service advisor even if they do so we have to go on a 15 minute expedition through their vehicle to find the damn thing.
Most people keep them in the glove box, center console or doors. We check the trunk last because it's usually buried under 500 pounds of **** we have to take out and put back in.
Most people treat their vehicles like rolling trash cans and/or storage units.
I caught hell when my gf at the time had a Charger and and i was gonna do the brakes....Probably for replacement lug nuts when the caps started peeling off...................................
And the fact that they still use them makes it even worse................................I caught hell when my gf at the time had a Charger and and i was gonna do the brakes....
That's a sorry SOB who ever designed those..
I regrettably have splined lug nuts on my wife’s car as the dealer lost the key and I didn’t realize it till I was changing a tire out on the side of the road at 10 am. After market splined lug nut sets with key were cheaper than quality lug set. I’ve been pretty happy with the spline versus tradition wheel lock lug
