Hello all..

Looking for recommendations.. I have FHW baseboard in my house with 5 zones.. One zone is for a bedroom on the south side of the house and a bedroom and bathroom across the hall on the north side of the house. My son uses the south side BR, with the thermostat, as his room with the spare BR on the north side is his TV/office. At night, with his door closed, there isn't much call for heat, so the spare BR and bath get cold.. Last winter we had a rare night with extreme windchill in the negative teens which caused a baseboard to freeze. That corner of the room was above the overhang on the front of the house, so its a vulnerable wall in the cold.. I've since added insulation and done all I can to seal the house from draft, but that room and bathroom are still cool as they have no way to call for heat.

There no easy way to run new wire to move the thermostat to that room, finished basement... I was wondering if there was a thermostat with a wireless sensor I could mount in the front room so it could call for heat also? I've seen a few that all say they work through Alexa or google, but we don't have or want a smart speaker. I'm looking for a thermostat that would just have a B/T remote sensor..

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

I used the Honeywell T-9 with remote sensor in a recent application. The local utility company offered them at a great discount. They work well.

Ecobee can manage itself and 3 remotes.
... and you don't need wifi for the remote sensors to work. You would only need WIFI if you want to access the stat remotely. It runs fine with no connection. I've installed about 15 of these now, easily my favourite for many reasons including quite a few remote sensors. They come in handy as "lazy" presense sensors as well for automation purposes.

You do need a C wire (common) ideally available, but they do provide a kit (PEK, included) if you have at least four wires to the stat which emulates a C wire if there is not one there already.

Yes the C wire is needed for many smart thermostats. The Honeywell T-9 and T-10 come with a C wire adapter that allow a 4 wire cable to be used. They convert the fan wire to serve as both a C wire and fan wire.
