I need a toolbox. What are my options?

I've been looking to get a new toolbox, and after seeing the craftsman professional box Mooman just bought, It really put me into high gear. I like the 36-41 inch width and would like it to be atleast 20 inches deep for under $1000. I'm thinking a used KRA4107 or the 41 inch matco box, not sure of the part number. I really like the full width drawers on those models with one deep drawer on top. So what other options do I have?

Thanks,
Brandon

Yep I actually looked at that box, too bad its in beverly hills though.

I looked at this one too, but the seller's location says Justice, United States?? So I figured it was probably not close, because they never are. But when I set the search to within 250 miles of my zipcode, it still showed up. So I sent a message asking about its location. Hopefully it's close!!

Go with a Harbor Freight box. You can actually get 2 for under 1000 bucks.

He did specify 20 inches deep, the HF is 18. Not to say it isn't a killer deal when you can get one for 339.

The latest crop at Costco (no reflection on earlier ones) is not worth bringing home.
The ones from Vietnam are junk, pure and simple.
Taiwan is SnapOn by comparison.

The Torin built boxes they have sold are excellent.

I've seen tons of them, bought a bunch for reasonable amounts, but it depends where you are located.

What's your nearest big city?

Just a hint, if your a hobbiest or live out of your box the box you buy will never be big enough. You will think how can I possibly fill this thing up 1 yr. later you will be looking for another box. Been there done that on my 4th box its a mac macsimizer triple bay had it for about a year and its full.

Justice is a Chicago suburb, SW. When I searched the seller the list view showed the location as Burbank, another SW suburb.

Thanks for all the input guys!!

Although, now it is a moot point. Because I just got an early christmas present. A 41 inch HF top and bottom box, and a side cabinet! And its black too!! No its not 20 inches deep, but I can't beat it for free!!!!!:bounce:

I wasn't sure about the matte black before, but after seeing it I love it. It looks stealthy. I just got done setting it up, and I'll get some pictures up in the morning.

That is so true I started with a regular size Stack-on tool box then moved up to a footlocker thinking there would be no way to fill it. Now I'm having to store some of my tools in a cardbord box cause I've ran out of room and with all the power tools I've been buying I don't know what to do now. Any ideas on what I can do for storage. I would love to have a tool chest like I see on here but it has to be made in the US, Canada, or Europe.

Ordered it at my local harbor freight, and then picked it up from the store when it came in.

Wow, next day shipping  You made a decision really fast. The box looks very nice and thanks for posting the pic as I always wondered how the other color HF boxes looked. I prefer that over their wrinkle finish red.

Haha it was a christmas gift, a little early. I actually almost bought another box before I found out i was getting this. Good thing I held off. :bounce:

And yea I love the color, its still the krinkle finish, but it looks like bedliner. Its nice. It will probably be a PTA to clean though.

was the price on it the same as the red box or did you have to pay more? also, were you able to use a coupon on it? if so, that'd be a sweet deal to get that black box over the red.

I didn't buy it, so I don't know exactly what it cost. I know it was more expensive than the red box though. The bottom box was 449, and yes you can use the coupon on it. My store has a special order catalog right when you walk in the door, and that's where you can order it from.

it does look really nice. I'll have to see what they say when I go in next month when the red one is on sale.

I just got a mac tech1000 for $750 in decent shape
I have seen nice condition ones in the range of $1000-$1200

you can also get an older or few year old snap on. depending on where you are there is a 36'' wide snap on top and bottom that a member just dropped to $400. I have that same box and I can tell you that if he was anywhere near me I would own it.
I have a KR562 for $600 if your in CA
