Hello comrades,

I have trimmed my beard for years. Now, i have to shave because of pursuing a career in law enforcement.

My shaver ***** for a daily torture routine and its loud as hell.

Please, go ahead and sell me what works for you for a clean skin shave.

Two factors to consider, is quietness and nicesnessness... ness.

Thanks in advance.

Safety razor gets closer than an electric and is much quieter unless you cut yourself.

I've never seen an electric shave as closely as a manual blade. If only...

Congratulations on your choice in LE. I also have tried the electrics, and as others have said they do not shave as close as a safety razor. It takes about the same, or less time to shave with a blade then an electric razor. Good Luck and Stay Safe.

I've used nothing but electric razors the entire time I've been shaving. I've always got the top of the line Braun or Norelco with the self cleaning stations. I can tell you for sure that for me I can get closer with Braun style foil blades than with the circular cut blades of Norelco. To get a close shave with an electric takes more time than a regular blade for sure.

Braun user here for the past 20 years. Skip the self cleaning ones that require cleaning solution. Costco usually has a great deal on one of the upper end Braun's. I shave my face and head daily with my Braun and it works well.

I've also only ever used electric shavers. My first one was a Braun, it was a very simple design and lasted almost 20 years. It used line frequency to move the cutter back and forth, so inside there were a couple of wire coils and a pivot. The plastic on it started to break down and crack. After that I had some more Brauns and Remmingtons. They all had battery, electric motor and way more moving parts so they didn't last as long. My current one is a Panasonic 5 blade. At first it cuts so easily, shaving took less than 2 minutes. After 2 years a light comes on telling you to replace the cutters and foils, then you get your new shaver function again.

The Panasonic is by far the best one that I've ever owned. And I agree, skip the autocleaning stuff.

Electrics are fine, but the heads wear out in 1 to 2 years. The shave is never quite as good as a wet shave.

The Gillette Sensor was always the best shave in my opinion, but when the cartridges got to $2 a pop, I balked, even though I was a Gillette shareholder.

I'm now converted to old fashioned double edge. It's not as good a shave as the Sensor, but it's 95% as good. And I picked up a lifetime supply of blades when Walmart was selling Wilkinson Sword Made in Germany blades for $1.76 for a pack of 10. There isn't as good a deal in the stores anymore, but you can still find the same blades online for about 20 cents a piece. They were cheaper at Walmart than the same blades were in Germany. Maybe that's why they stopped selling them about two years ago.

You can still get Sensor blades....both types with and without rub strip...on Amazon. IMHO the best wet razor.

Braun is NOT quiet.......... and clean up is PIA. The Braun cleaner system is expensive and does NOT work well.

Norelco is quiet, water clean up run the complete unit under hot water and its done, can be used in the shower if that's your thing, available at Costco in pack witha travel version included..............beats the Braun all to hell. Did I mention it's QUIET !!!

I used various 3-head Norelcos for about 20 years. My beard got so tough I would wear out the heads in about 3-4 months instead of the recommended 12 months. I switched back to a manual shave a few years ago. I use high grade Nivea shave cream and balm and Target disposable 2-blade razors. About a month ago I bought a mirror for the shower and started shaving in the shower. Love it!

For those of you who like blades, check out the Dorco branded multi blades on Amazon.com. Dorco is the same blade sold by "dollar shave club", yet much cheaper via amazon. I stock up on the 4 blade model.

I used a Norelco for years with the same set of heads, until the plastic parts just crumbled from age. I bought a replacement and it was of much lower quality. Not only did it not shave so well, but the blades dulled in just a few months. Replacement blades were no better.

I agree they're the best. I just decided they weren't worth the expense. A Wilkinson double edge for 20 cents is 95% as good. I can't pay $1.80 for that last 5%.

I've used several brands but usually Panasonic. Any of the thin screen types seem to work well. I use electric because I think it is quicker. One word of caution though, some of them tout using them in the shower but I found that water eventually gets into the works no matter how well they claim they are sealed. So I only use them dry now.

You can rinse the Braun 7 series with water and it can also be used in the shower. Braun will give you a closer shave. The Panasonics are good too but the heads are so big that you can't really see what you are shaving.

Norelco for me, with blades replaced every 18 months. I use a razor on my neck and sideburns.

I have a Norelco beard trimmer, and one of the heads is a single roller shaver. I only shave with a safety razor. I don't shave anything but my neck line, but I had missed a spot recently and put the shaver head on to give a quick clean it up. It was surprisingly good at it.

I don't like electric razors, or shaving. My version of clean shaven is 0 with clippers. Based on that limited experience I would recommend Norelco. My hair is thick, both dense and thick diameter. It wasn't very much like torture.

If you can't find the men's sensor, the women's sensor is exactly the same blade in a different color. They are actually Sensor XL's, with the lube strip. Instead of gray with a white lube strip, they are white with a blue lube strip. I got a good deal at the flea market. I just ran out of the women's blades and just scored some men's blades, from the same vendor. After using both I can say that there is no difference. I have not tried Gilettes with a higher blade count but always liked the Sensor XL and always saw the ever increasing blade count and elaborate swivels as a sales gimmick. People's desire to have the newest and best often overpowers their common sense, when the should be saying this one does a great job and I don't need to spend more money. The manufacturers often discontinue the older model, no matter how popular it is. Remington made an electric that got great reviews and was very inexpensive but it is gone, too.

I have 2 Panasonics, beard trimmer and shaver, after reading tons of reviews on amazon and am they're only OK. Only 2 years old and beard trimmer is getting dull with terrible battery life. The close shaver charges really quick at least.

All the features work very good and they clean easy, just wish I didn't have to charge them all the time. I don't shave everyday.

One thing I've noticed (disclaimer: I've only bought 5 shaver/trimmers in my lifetime) you get what you pay for. Cheap ones snagged alot, whereas the the two I just purchased are a much cleaner/faster cut.

I used to use Mach razors (they sent me a free trial when I turned 18) for about 10 years. About 3 years ago I discovered safety razors and haven't looked back.

I even got into straight shaving for a while. That, my friend, is an art!

I always sucked at using blades, looked like a horror movie. Norelco has always been my goto. I tried Remington at first (30+ years ago) but they tended to get hot at the cutters fast and could give a good rash burn. I'm close to needing a new kit and will look into the Braun and Panasonic offerings this time around.

I've used Norelco and Braun but currently on the Panasonic. I prefer the Panasonic to the other 2 and AFAK, still made in Japan.

Ive tried it all. Got a particularly thick beard and nothing works as well as the old standard 2-3 blade designs.

Ive found that at walmart gillette sells disposable 3 blade razors in a pack of 4, 6 or 10. Think its sensor 3. They cost literally less than 10 bucks for multiple razors. best part is they fit my sensor excell handle :)

Anyways the best shave Ive found is to do it in the shower and use shave gel for sensitive skin. shower your hair and body and then shave. The heat fromt he shower/hot water really helps.

No electric razor really works all to well to get a close shave, Ive tried them all.

safety razor. I use a Merkur adjustable with Feather blades. Cheaper, better results, almost cant clog them, they rock.

I used a self propelled from the beginning. Then changed to the pull type. After you cut the tops off any protrusions, moles etc. The safety razor cuts closer and back shave a bit and you might be even able to miss a day if you have a lighter beard.
