I need help figuring out a snap on date code.

My dad pulled my grand fathers 9/32" snap on set out of the bottom of his tool box earlier today. I don't think it's worth a lot money wise but we both curious if we could find the model year.

Here is the whole set.

All the tools in the box.

All the tools marked snap on.

And the markings on the ratchet.

One chart I found says that the "g" means 1945 and another says it means "government." Anyone have any idea on its build date?

You can date those sockets individually. There should most likely be a symbol on each one. Google "Snap On date code chart".

Those are the exact two charts that I found. If I am reading that correctly "g" is either 1945 and government?

The font of those 2 g's are different. Yours appear to be GOV'T and made in 1945.

Neat, I wonder if it had anything to do with WWII?

One of the sockets appears to be 1944 and another perhaps 1947...

Hi,
I did not ay any attention to this date chart until recently. I found a 1/2 drive ratchet in my Dad,s things. I remembered it as a kid. It is 50 years old and still works like a champ. I am the 2nd generation to use it. I guess Snap-on plans on being around a long time given they have forcasted the symbols so far in advance. Leaky
