I have a rather large lot of 1" and 3/4" drive impact sockets I want to get rid of. all of them are American. mostly Proto, but also MAC, S-K, Snap-On, many misc. brands. over 150 sockets in all. also extensions, reducers, enlargers, ratchets. probably a good 300 lbs. I don't really know what the best way to sell these would be. by drive size? brand? both?. I also don't really know what the market might bear. what is a good $ I should expect?

Look on eBay for completed listings of what your selling. Or post them here in the classifieds with good pics by lots. Like metric 3/4 short or sae 1" short etc for a fair price.

Some of us would appreciate you posting your location on the left side of the screen...

I am interested in some 3/4" and 1" drive impact sockets,,, but there are members here from near and abroad,,,, would make a bit easier to ponder a road trip if we had the slightest hint as to which direction to head out..

Cannot forget: Welcome to GJ

drive-by posting??? I have been on OWWM for years. and practical machinist. I am downsizing and am trying to find the appropriate outlet for some tools. I would like to find someone nearby to pick 'em up. By the way I live in paradise, ca. I don't know if shipping would be worth it to anyone here. I tried to post some pics, but they didn't show up. I'll try again.

Depends on what your goals are. Do you want to maximize the $ you get? Are you willing to put time in on listing, shipping and waiting? Well you will more than likely need to use ebay to get a larger audience. It will be more time consuming.

If you want them gone somewhat quick small lots of commonality at reasonable used prices would speed up the process but loose total $.

If you want them gone the fastest and probably minimal $ with minimal effort a local craigslist ad would probably do the trick. Realize the market for those is pretty small compared to more common 3/8 and 1/2" drive stuff.

And a welcome to GJ. Since you are on OWWM as well you should know the etiquette of asking about value and silent auction sales. Hence why some folks gave you a bit of grief initially.

Several options are open.

Group by brand
make a mongrel mostly _______ brand set and some lots by brand
Drive tools apart from set or included

There is demand for large drive size stuff, just research those prices into a reasonable range for both buyer and seller. Condition looks to be good.

I sold mine years ago as a set locally, they sat a while but one week 2 guys came looking and they went out.

you are totally right about me asking for a group price. That was poor wording on my part. What I mean to ask is if it were you would you sell them as a lot, individually and deal with the headache, or in groups. ebay is a huge hassle. I was hoping I wouldn't have to go that route. I can't realistically expect to sell these as a lot for what completed single auction prices are can I? I want to be fair without spending a month piecing these out. is there anyone here who is interested ? maybe? or should I be posting this in another thread? sorry, this is the first time I have posted here so I haven't explored the site very much. looks like it is right up my ally though. thanks for any opinions.

the problem with 1 inch drive is that most people do not purchase them for personal use. generally it is businesses and companies that purchase them and they go for new. 3/4 is a little easier to sell but a decent used set goes for 100-200 and not much more unless it is snap on.

JJ: it actually sounds like you might be a good person to have on GJ so welcome to the group. that said we get a lot of people that join and start threads asking about what their stuff is worth or what they should pay for some Craigs listing.

your sockets are pretty rough looking even though they probably work the same as a new one. I would post them on the Classifieds section here and you might get somebody that needs them. I see a lot of these quality old sockets being listed on Craigs or at estate sales from $.50 to $2 per socket and not a high demand.

shine them up and post a few good pictures on the classifieds and your buyer might be there or sell them as is for less.

good luck
