My son died last year. He was a collector of many things including axes. None of which were ever used. I would like to sell the collection but have no idea where to begin. He collected high end axes and hatches including Gransforth I would appreciate any suggestions that you may have.

I'm sorry for the loss of your son.

Have you tried researching prices on eBay? You can do advanced searches for completed transactions to get an idea of pricing info on various items, including high end tools. It's not perfect, but pretty easy to do.

Bushcraft USA is an outdoor forum where folks are well versed in axes. You do have to pay a fee, I think it’s $10, to be able to post classified ads.

There are axe specific forums that have information like you need like Bladeforums & Bushcraft USA. I've collected them over the years as well, mostly vintage. Not sure if yours are new, old or both. Depending on how many you have it could be a tedious process but quality axes are worth something. Take time to list/itemize them with a description and take clear pics of each. I'd suggest a basic length/width dimension and pics of the item; full length, closeup of the head, both sides, closeup of any label or embossing on the head and handle (if any). Markings are important for identification. At least make a list of them all, relating whatever markings are on the head. Most axe guys will know what you have with as little as the marking on the head but the more info the better. The related forums usually have 'For Sale' threads that you can post items in. And there is eBay. Lots of axes for sale there. You might look locally and see if there is a bushcrafting community or training org near you that could offer some insight.

Garage Journal has a well used "for sale" section - try there.
other than that you will get best results on a dedicated Axe / sword forum
as others mention Ebay is a great resource. A friend of mine is a knife maker. He says he has seen auctions run in to the thousands for some axes / knives.

You can check the value of the items at ebay.com.

Here is the link:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/ebayadvsearch

1. Type in the items name in the "Enter keywords" form field.

2. Make sure to check off the "Sold listings" check box.

3. Then just click the search button.

I am in Southern Ca and I plan to take pictures and can post them. Would this thread be the place?
