I need input on these two Snap-On tools.

As a student, I can get these new significantly cheaper than the price listed. I am looking for feedback from users who have used these two tools. I'm not interested if you've used another brand or have other suggestions (not trying to sound like a ****...). I'm looking for any battery issues, bad experiences, etc. I've used the 14v version of the impact and was impressed, I'm sure the 18v will be just as bad ***.

One of the bigger benefits of using these two is they share the same batteries and charger, so I don't need to have multiple chargers and batteries.

i use a 14v one at work and its great. no issues yet, even after it fell in 5 gallons of antifreeze

The CT6850 is pretty much bulletproof in my experience. The CDR6850 is a very powerful drill and I have sold a bunch of them as well. Both good tools in my experience and I have both of them in my personal toolbox.

go for the 18volt impact and then get the 14 volt drill. it is nice to get the 18volt drill and have plenty of batteries to go around.
also get the 14.4 impact as well. it is sweet when installing accessories on cars and trucks.

I'm sure someone is going to say get a set with lithium Ion batteries but I have used the S-O impact and I have a Makita L-I set and I would take the S-O over mine any day. That 1/2" impact is just a brute.

I bought the MILWAUKIE 2691-22 after Thanksgiving at Home Depot for $199. This is BOTH the 18 Volt Lithium Ion Drill Driver AND Impact Driver.

I can be sure but the Snap On appears to be a Private Label MILWAUKIE in disguise.

The below AMAZON link has it for $299 and if your willing to accept refurbished (I have no idea what was "wrong" with product) AMAZON has those for $199.

The Snap On private labeled products are grossly overpriced. Are you so obsessed with the SNAP ON name on each and every tool that you'd pay this price...........OR do you have no $$$ and need the S.O. 25% credit plan ???

Nope. The Snap-on and milwaukee guns are NOT the same. Snap-on makes their own cordless tools.

Before you jump on this battery system check that any other tools you might want are available ideally as bare tools. 1 extra charger, and 4 batteries, can be handy but I doubt you'd need any more. And if you think a vehicle charger would be useful check they're available too.

I agree with others that you'll probably also need/want a lighter system in the 12v to 14v range.

Regards Lithium vs. NiMh it's a non issue for regular use IME. Where Lithium offers a definite advantage is occasional use. The batteries don't self discharge like NiMh do.

FYI: with a little dremel action, you can put the 18v battery on the 14v tools.

I have the 1/2 drive cordless impact from snap on, and yes its a beast. BUT, I had to send mine in to get rebuilt ( new anvil and motor ) under warranty because it lost all guts and couldnt remove the lugnut of my RX-7.

Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it.

I currently have the 18 volt Li-I Makita drill/impact combo and freaking love it. I use them daily in my car audio profession.

However, I have found a few limitations on the Makita's impact (I truly understand it's small size is to blame). As a Auto-tech getting ready for more "heavy-duty" work, I will need a more heavy duty impact. I already own the MG 725 1/2 inch (which is amazing), but having an air hose can be a restriction similar to a cord on a drill.

One of my old coworkers had the 14 volt SO impact and we, as a shop, abused the hell out of it. Stubborn seat bolts on older gm bench seats, seatbelt bolts, etc. That thing would get them out with no effort.

I've always been a fan of SO cordless products, and now I have a tremendous discount, I'd like to look more closely into these items.

If anyone else would like to step forward with personal experience, I'd love to hear it (good and bad), and thanks again guys!

i'd get 1 kit w/2batt's and a charger, 2nd tool alone, and an xtra battery.
ive used the impact before, and it's nice. my biggest complaint about corless tools is as the battery gets close to the end of the charge, speed slows down, as does torque.
i do have a bluepoint 3/8" dr. that i use a lot, i couldnt justify buying the SO for what i use it for, and the abuse i put it through being a field serv tech.

I have looked into this.

Each item I posted is only available to me as a kit. I can get a 14v impact gun as a standalone, but the kit is a FAR superior deal price wise. I can get the 14v impact gun for $***.**. I can get the 18v impact KIT for less than $100 more.

It only makes sense to run 18V in my situation.

id buy the 18v kit, then the 3/8 impact, dremel the tab down on the 18v battery, and run it in the 14v 3/8 impact. ive litterally pulled engines with that. it makes a NASTY 3/8ths lol.

I bet that motor really screams at 18 volts. I may have to take one off the truck and try it myself.

I recently bought the 1/2 cordless impact gun from Snap On and happy with it. I don't use it everyday because I am no longer a tech but I do use it here and there. One thing I REALLY like about it is I can use it till there's practically no battery life left... put in on the charger... about 30 minutes later... IT'S DONE CHARGING READY TO GO!! I bought the regular batteries because I couldn't afford the lithium..

we had the 9.6 with an 18 volt back in the day and it really screamed. but it died after about 8 months of use

On the site, it doesn't list the drill by itself. It is only available as the kit. I would contact my local rep, but he is very hard to get hold of.

The light is available to me seperatly, and at my price, I may have to scoop that up as well.
