I need some cleaning help

Not quite garage related but I knew you all would have some good ideas…

I received several nice pots and pans for free but the problem is most of the bottoms are caked with charged blackness. Ive tried soaking them in dish soap with vinegar, bar keepers friend and even brake cleaner (only on the bottom and I will remember to wash before use). All of these have worked a little bit but none have given me the results I want. Any thoughts?

Hi there!

I use oxygen bleach powder (OxyClean) wetted as a paste to clean cooked-on cooking oil off of stainless steel pans. Use with a "no scratch" or fine ScotchBrite pad. I'm not sure if it's any better than Bar Keeper's Friend but if you have it handy, it's worth a try.

Ayuh,.... A green scrubbie pad, Bon-ami, hot dishwater, 'n elbow grease,....

I think soda blastin' would work, it ain't sand aggressive,...

You might want to try tilex I have used it to clean heavily scaled stainless coffee pots with no detriment the soap scum one works well. As you said make sure you clean them especially well after doing so. I put hot water in the pots till full and dump about a third of a spray bottle in and let them sit over night. Some times it does take a second over night sit but it does work.

Soak in hot soapy water overnight.

Then go at them with Brillo pad and Comet.

Shiny as new with enough elbow grease !!

I am assuming by the looks they are aluminum, this site had some good suggestions.

put it in a plastic bag with pure vinegar and let it soak

you can try the same method with coke

If my wife asked me to clean these, I'd tell her she may not like the result. I'd use the right angle die grinder and a roloc scotchbrite.

When I worked in the resturant industry my favorite receptor was let that pot simmer overnight in a bigger pot of water with a cleaner called Dip-it . Dip-it was used to clean coffee pots.
Not sure if you can find it, but the Internet is your friend.
