I'm building a ranch style house (modular) and I'm going to be building the attached garage myself. The house will be 28' wide with a 7/12 pitch on it. The garage roof will run the opposite way as the house but will be 36' wide. Im just curious what the garage pitch will be so the wall/roof height match up to the house.

Kind of sounds like a bad Jr high math problem! Lol

This is what I'm going for but my 3rd stall will be set back 4' to break it up a little. Otherwise this is pretty much exactly what my house and garage will look like.

Thanks!

I'd keep the top plate the same height as the house (good storage/loft space)
Go with 7/12 pitch on garage. That will be 21 feet up from the top plate put some kind of shake type siding on the gable end to break up the height.
Good luck!

Like the reply from Sophijoe go to the lumber yard... NOT Home Depot or Lowes, and have there Truss vendor do the math.

It would be 10.5 ft. to the peak, not 21ft. Center point is 18ft, your Cal's used 36ft as the center for the peak.

If the truss manufacturer that supplies the yard is close by (as they often are) make an appointment directly with the manufacturer. They will sit with you and provide drawings, etc.

When I built my garage (album) the same manufacturer supplied many of the local yards(including HD & Lowes). Get price quotes from all of them as they will still vary in $$$ even though they all receive them from the same builder source.

I'm going through my local lumber yard and they were very competitive. They were supposed to meet with the truss company to figure out the pitch but I just noticed on my price sheet that they have it listed as a 7/12 pitch and I know that cant be right. I just wanted to know what it should be roughly so I can double check. I'll probably actually wait to order them until the house gets set just to make sure everything is right. I think they said it would be 2-3 weeks for the trusses once ordered.

This is the look I'm going for.
