I am building a batting cage in the backyard for my son like the picture, but I need to figure out an easy way to make the pipe hinge down when not in use. Stupid HOA will complain if I leave it up. I can fab anything in my garage, I just need ideas. Got any?

Fold over antenna masts -

https://www.google.com/search?q=fold+over+antenna+mast&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwihwOzF95PKAhUOwWMKHfAtBT0QsAQIOw&biw=997&bih=416

I think the simplified answer is the base section, 3-4 ft tall from the ground, is TWO pipes side by side. Top section is full length ground to top. Big bolt through the top of the base section is the pivot for the top section. Second big bolt at the base, through all three is the "lock". Pull the pin at the bottom, the top tilts.

Do you need it to fold because of the netting or would the netting be removed as well?

I think the telescoping idea is going to be easier and stronger for the effort and money spent. Just drill a couple holes, weld some nuts on, and install some set bolts. You can even make them like a wing nut so that they are easy to tighten and loosen by hand.

This is the idea. This cage is 10k, I'll have around 1400 when I'm done in this one.

Yeah, the folding mast bracket would be the easiest. The telescoping would make it difficult to put up and down. I can just bolt the bottom hole and pin the top in the upright position with the mast bracket and be done.

That's not the best picture, but do I see a small winch on there? Like a small boat ,hand crank winch? That would be real easy.

Do you want it to fold in half, or pivot at the ground?

Ahhh, never mind, the winch is for the net? Shoot, I would lift both the pole and net with a winch.
