i need some metal paint

dont need a thick enamual and dont want a automotive paint.

i look at lowes, hd and tractor supply and just cant find the color. Dont want a spray can paint. any ideas. looking for a sand tan color to paint some equipment. Im going to spray it not brush. also looking for a flat

An acrylic might work. Acrylics are good paints if you buy the best/

Take a piece of whatever you are painting (if it is still the right color) in to the paint store & have them color match it.
Almost all stores that sell paint also custom mix colors. (lowes, home depot, fleet farm, menards, tru-value / ace, etc)

If you need a durable paint, go to an auto-body supply store & ask for their "economy line" of paints & have them mix it.
(they all have color decks that will probably have something close)

I needed a color match to a JET sheetmetal brake & I brought my own paint into a farm & home store & the lady color matched it while I waited with her tints. (she didn't even charge me anything, even though I didn't buy the paint there)

Is it for clean sanded metal or rusty metal?

I just sprayed a couple projects with Zero Rust. First time using it. I usually shy away from these types of coatings as I usual only use high quality auto finishes in auto restoration type projects. But my son had a couple of trailer projects he welded up and needed complete paint jobs with a very limited budget. They were rusty and complete sandblasting was out of the question so I thought we'd give ZR a try. I've used POR-15 a few times for rusty metal but it has some drawbacks and limitations.

THE ZR rust covered pretty good spraying - even yellow. I thinned it out 5:1 with lacquer thinner as per the instructions. Overall pleased with the results but have no idea how it will hold up long term. Your looking for a flat so this will be good for that and the price is very reasonable. The only thing to watch out for is you will go through a lot of material to get the film thickness required to hold back the rust.

I've started using X-O Rust paint on metal items. I haven't used it long enough to see how long it lasts, but I am very happy with the coverage and durability thus far. It is a brush-on oil based paint.

Any large paint store will have a line of DTM (direct to metal). It is available in oil or acrylic. Can be color matched and is available in different sheens. It can be applied over primer or as a single coat.
