Picked these two sockets up today thinking they were S-K Chrome. When I get them home and look under magnification I see "Chrome Vanadium Steel". I think it's pretty clear they are made by S-K but I've never heard of this marking before. What's the story here? I've photographed them under magnification. They're 1/4" drive, 3/8" and 7/16", 12pt sockets with a dot before the size and after the CV marking. No S-K name or part number anywhere. TYIA, Steve.

Indestro made similar looking sockets and marked them "Chrome Vanadium". The dot you describe is possibly a small star which AA also indicates is an Indestro characteristic.

Correct me if I'm wrong but everything I see from Indestro is marked "Chromium Vanadium". That's not how my sockets are marked. Also, I haven't seen anyone other than S-K produce a socket with this profile. I can pick S-K sockets out of a box by shape without reading the name. For some of the WWII experts, could these be of that era for military?

Steve,
My best guess is that they are prewar and contract tools similar to the tools S-K made to be labeled Brazil. S-K did a lot of contract sales in the early days. They are pretty darned similar in features to S-K Chrome 1/4” sockets and since during WW2 the metal restrictions were in place the Chrome Vanadium wouldn’t have been offered. I’m thinking 1930s. The first picture is my S-K Chrome set for comparison and the next is of my Brazil sockets by S-K. The military sets would have looked like the last two pictures.

From what I've seen, I think this line of though is very strong.
