Well the time had finally come after saving for 10 plus years to start my build! I am is desperate need of suggestions for what route to take. I was initially set on a metal garage because of cost. Some things have changed and I have more options to diy myself with some good friends and family that are willing to throw in a hand when I need them. My question is what route would be better to take given the circumstances. I initially got a quote for $22k that was for a metal 30x30x12 with concrete, full insulation and two 10x10 doors. Sorry for the long post I’m very excited to start the process.

I have been toying with the same scenario except I been saving for 24yrs. Problem is once I pulled the money out I forgot about Uncle Sams cut. Ouch! So that put me on a metal bldg diet. Sounds good to me,but may want to inquire about the details and don't leave nothing to the imagination or make sure you get details in writing. Do you have to worry about snow load,is the slab going to be 4" thick and will there be rebar, etc. These are just few things that need to know about. What also has help me and confuse me at the same time is to watch some Youtubes, there are so many. Watching them has help me to ask more questions with details cause I am learning what to ask. Month ago I was clueless, now I am getting quotes on trusses. Here on this forum search for garage builds or Pole Barns etc, there is lot of reading material here. Good luck, lots of people here who know more than I wiil be responding I'm sure.

When you say metal building, are you referring to a red iron building, a pole barn with metal siding or a carport type structure ?

The quote was for a carport type building. I’m not opposed to any specific type I’m just trying to figure out what’s best for me.

Do you and your "friends" have any building experience????

Anybody finished a concrete pour or planned a pour?

Helped build a metal building??

Most of this stuff is not rocket science.....but it does take some planning and experience.

Pouring concrete is time sensitive....once the truck backs up to the site, you only have a set period of time to get it unloaded and in the forms.

You can erect the building at your own pace...but you will need help, not as much help as when pouring concrete, but at least a couple of helpers.

I'm sure others here can help you with your plans.

Let me clarify the grading/concrete will be subbed out. I’m asking about structure only at this point. Thanks
