It dawned on me that I never properly introduced myself on GJ so here it goes. I live just outside Chicago in the western suburbs. I was born and raised in the Windy City then moved out to the ‘burbs after college. I am a machinist that started in the trade a little later in life at 27. Before that I worked as a butcher and cook as I thought that was going to be a great career. It sucked in so many ways. Machining isn’t always so rosy but it’s a million times better than food.
I started as an apprentice toolmaker, moved over to draftsman, then back to apprentice toolmaker, then to surface grinder, WEDM machinist, programmer, and now I’m running the hard milling department as a VMC machinist all while under 40.
I got into GJ when I started purchasing German-made tools and have run the gauntlet on tool purchases from every country. This place has certainly been a godsend for tools and fixing problems.
