Well my wife and I purchased our first home just over a year ago. Before we moved anything into the garage I finished it and stained the concrete. I then set up a little workshop for my hobbies and basic repair on our cars. 8.5 months ago we found out we're having a little one So the garage re-configuration began. We've had a garage sale and also took a bunch of stuff to the swap meet hoping to get rid of stuff we had accumulated. So that brings us here.

Last week I re-did an old rolling chair I brought home from work:

I then dug out an old columbian vice my dad gave me, cleaned it up and painted it:

Taking inspiration from the famous 12 gauge garage and other GJ members I came up with a fold-down workbench:

I also started to configure hanging doors to conceal the contents of my whalen storage rack. After getting some sort of doors my focus will go to cleaning up and raising and old McDowell & Craig metal tanker desk that will be used to store tools and as another work surface. Thanks for looking

You have done some very good work and used a lot of class in your tool board. I like the redone chair, which is also very good work to restore an item like that. The vise is also very nice. I am very glad you posted your garage and look forward to your other projects.

Thank you guys for the compliments. I did use a model brush I had laying around and clear coated everything afterwards. More updates to follow

When we moved into this house my in-laws bought us a Whalen storage rack from Costco. I really like how beefy this thing is but hate how cluttered it looks so i decided to cover up the front. I'm sure there are better ways, but I found this to be cheap and effective while being easy to remove (For whatever situation may arise, I can remove the top 2x4 that holds the doors up by removing just two bolts.) I made sure to keep it off the ground so I can still sweep/mop underneath it.

Materials -
70inch sliding closet door rail (All hardware was included) $16
2x4 - free (Had lying around)
2 sheets of 4-ply sheathing - $14 each

Well the last three months have been a whirlwind but I'm happy to say our son arrived safe and sound As for the garage it's slowly making it's way off the back-burner. Not much has changed but the most drastic thing is that this last weekend was the first time we were able to park my wife's car in there without renting a storage unit. I have also purchased a HF 5 drawer cart which I'm really stoked about.

Really no mods yet but I did black out the hardware and threw one of my craftsman socket wrench kits on the bottom while assembling. My next project (Besides never-ending organization) is to box in the shelf under my workbench. More to come

In the constant hunt for more space in our little garage I decided to open up the space under the water heater. I first cut open the drywall, then figured out what size box would work. I built the inner box then fastened it in the opening and I'm currently waiting for the compound to set up before adding texture. I plan on adding trim around the opening that will match the door trim.

Little by little the garage is getting organized. Here's some progress shots of the organization spanning 2 years -

I've started hanging French cleats and slowly eliminating peg board and I plan on diamond grinding the floor and either finishing with epoxy or racedeck. I would like to figure out a way to store or hide more of my son's stuff (cozy coupe, wagon, car seats and jogger.) So of anyone has any ideas I'd sure appreciate them!

You mentioned that you might go with RaceDeck flooring. If you do that, why would you need to grind the floor?

When we first moved in I went to the local hardware shop and purchased the current stain at their recommendation. It hasn't held up well at all and I know I don't have to but I'd like to grind up the crappy acrylic stain and at least put a clear coat over the concrete even if I do racedeck. It'll give me something to do this winter and I plan on taking the racedeck to our next house so I'd like to leave the floor looking semi-decent.
