in dug around in my box 'o' rusty tools today and did some cleaning. i wish i had taken before pics.
this was a pair of VERY rusty pliers that belonged to my dad. as far back as remember the hung on his pegboard in a sad state of afairs. the were rusted bad enough they required bead blasting and buffing. there are still some pits but they'll just have to stay there. i decided to cold blue them as a rust preventative. not to bad for a 60 year old pair of crescent pliers.
i also cleaned up a rusty old micrometer. never gave it much thought but it was given to me several years ago, i always thought it was a POS. after soaking in vinegar and a hot water rinse i scrubbed it with baking soda and a tooth brush. after i cleaned it it didn't look like a cheap POS anymore. although there is no mfr name on it, it looks like an old starrett to me.
