Not quite automotive but destined for my garage...

I finally managed to find myself Tucker Vise, which was made by Veritas/Lee Valley in Canada. Incredibly, it is new in box. They stopped manufacturing these, I think, ~10-15 years ago.

That last pic makes it look huge - lol.

Looks like a nice vise. I used a similar vise to hold struts while I rebuilt them a while back - lol. (also have a Yost 750 DI now - more suited to the task - lol)

Nicely done! I have an Emmert awaiting a proper workbench so I can mount it up and get it off the floor....but wouldn't turn down the chance to buy a Tucker and have thr new and the old version!

Buddy of mine has a Tucker, bought second hand,p. He thinks the previous owner was too intimidated to cut up his bench to mount it. My buddy built his around the Tucker, and loves it. Have not been up to see it since he finished the build.

Wasn’t the story on those vises, that the foundry burned down destroying the tooling,
and the cost to remake the tooling was substantial, especially compared to how many of the vises Lee Valley sold?

Also, there’s the Taiwanese cast iron Emmert clone, that’s significantly more affordable than the Tucker vise was, even nowadays let alone back when the Tucker vise was still in production.

Still, Lee Balley/Veritas designs and makes nice stuff, and it’s cool you found one.

Hurry up and mount it!

Don't be intimated by modifying your table, as you'll be smiling ear to ear and more once its installed and working. They're so nice to have like the Emmert and Wilton versions, very handy to have when functional.

Enjoy!

PS> Post pics when mounted

This is a pattern makers vise and a nice one. The tooling for it had been damaged and new tooling would run in excess of $250,000 from last report. The company occasionally revisits this potential investment but it hasn’t made economic sense, yet.
