I spent 40K building a garage so I could fill it with HF junk

Why would anyone spending exorbitant amounts of money, time, and effort building their Dream Garage turn around and then go fill it with bunch of cheap single use junk from Happy Fart

Is it my imagination or is the "New Eco-Friendly Paint" they are putting on new cars not able to withstand getting "Wet"

Took my wife's newish Mustang in for service and asked to have the detail shop remove the water spots. Guy tried to tell me it would have to be "Color-Sanded" at the paint and body shop.

Took 3 applications, but using my buffer and a good polishing compound all the spots are gone now. Of course now I keep a good layer of wax on it too

But it is good for a laugh going there to see the single use stuff they sell

My father built a 40 by 80 shop and he is filling it with a mix, but a lot is HF. He loves the place.

Much of it isn't single use junk so that's your first bad assumption. Many of them also aren't professional mechanics so the tools aren't used all day every day and will last them a lifetime of moderate use.

A place to work has nothing to do with what you work with or on. There's not even a remote correlation. This is trolling at its best. There might be exceptions like dedicated buildings for blacksmithing, etc., but you said "garage."

This. HF hand tools are fine for the DIY'er

HF power tools and welders I won't touch, EXCEPT I AM NOT a woodworker and have a HF 12" sliding compound miter saw which has been bomber cutting aluminum.

HF shop equipment like under-hoist trans jacks and shop presses allow one to have a semi-professional shop on a homeowner budget. I use my HF hydraulic table/cart daily to make a living while saving my back. The pallet jack is nice too.

And where does $40k come from? That's cheap.

Maybe they have no choice on the garage build, because of codes, permits, and inspections. And they may not know the difference in tools. If I used my tools a couple of times a year on a bicycle, I may not spend a whole lot on tools.

You must be a big spender. I just spent 1k on a shed to fill it with all my free tape measures, screwdrivers and flashlights..

Actually it tells me a lot when I see a nice garage/house/car filled with a bunch of new cheap ****, that has never been used. I don't think that all HF stuff is ****, but you do have to be a good consumer. It takes time to acquire a good mix of workable tools, but many people see something and want it NOW. I can but 1 pair of SO safety glasses or a whole truck load of HF tools.

No different than a nice house filled with new particle board furniture.

I have several different brand tools around the shop, some HF, some Ridgid, Craftsman, Crescent, Proto, Snap-On, etc. Lately I've been buying HF stuff because there's no damn reason to spend 3x the price to get a so called brand name tool also made in China, I don't see the point in spending more money to get the same tool made in the same factory overseas.

Most times I'll search around discount stores, and garage sales and grab tools that way because they are cheaper, and often times you can get your hands on some older brand name made in USA tools . You don't have to buy new stuff.

Worse yet, the people who spend $40k on their garage, shop, shed, etc. then have their cars repossessed, home foreclosed on etc. are even funnier to me than what's in their garage, shed, or shop.

If you don't need the tools to make a living then the investment in the home is more longer term value than the tools. Makes sense to me. I spend time rehabbing different kinds of machines. Getting rather good at it. I don't own a single Proto, Williams, Snap-on, or Mac tool. I just don't know how I could have gotten those machines apart and back together again without the tool jewelry.

I had to remove a 9/16th bolt the other day. Funny thing is my 1980's Craftsman V, my S&k ratchet, my Cobalt flex ratchet, my Pittsburgh ratchet, my Duralast ratchet and my new Craftsman ratchet (well maybe not the new one LOL) could all take the bolt off I needed. They all did the same job just as well as your Snap On.

I think the reason why a person builds a garage is so they can wrench on their projects inside a dry building. So even if they have HF junky tools, at least they can repair their cars and motorcycles and whatever inside out of the elements.

But I am pretty sure that the average person who builds a garage is NOT going to have only HF tools.

Except around here, HFs tend to move into existing strip mall buildings that are past their prime.

But to me it is very telling of the quality of your workmanship. You don't mind cheap low budget ineffective tools lining the insides of your garage - then perhaps one should look at the quality of your construction methods building your garage too.

250K - 500K "Tumble Down Shack" construction methods line the hills and mountains around Northern Cali. In fact one of my sons makes quite a good living doing insurance work, repairing homes that sell in High 6 figures.

I really wish I could afford to buy snap-on, and Proto and other brand name tools, but when 1 tool costs more than my bi-weekly paycheck its totally out of the running for consideration.

You know that is a pretty ****** comment. I know plenty of people that do some serious work with HF quality tools. The bolt doesn't care where the tool was made or how expensive it was. Maybe you should rethink your topics next time, because this is a total troll thread.
