Honestly? i think you wasted time and $50. That thing looks like it has all the downsides of a portable saw without the convenience of it being portable. I think you would have been better off looking around more for a better saw with an induction motor, even if it meant spending a little more.

Sorry, don't mean to be a jerk but that is my honest opinion.

Looks like a fine deal if it is what you needed, considering you would have spent half of that just to buy a new blade.

There are many uses for an economy saw. While that is not the best cabinet making saw, it's the operator, not the saw, that determines the outcome.

I don't think you stole it but you didn't get hurt either.

I see the rip fence but no mitre gauge in the picture.
Never cross cut a board without using one of these. I hope everybody on this board knows about saw kickback.

I think you paid a fair price, fair to you and fair to your boss.

But it doesn't matter what we think. What matters is if you feel you got a deal.

Looks better than the Ryobi I paid $75 for.

My little Ryobi has paid for itself many times over and I suspect your's will too

Occasional use does not warrant a $1000 table saw.

Good deal, just don't ever push it when ripping. Those motors burn up easily.

FWIW, table saws are going for less-than-cheeeep these days. Either young guys no longer DIY or they're afraid to walk near an older (non-SawStop) saw, lest it roar to life and cut off an arm.

The last three Craftsman all-cast-iron saws I had are now in Africa because that was the only offer I had at a well-advertised weekend tool sale.

There is a middle ground between cheap, under-powered universal motored TS's and $1k+ 3HP cabinet saws.

I see used Delta, Jet and Powermatic "contractor" type saws all the time on Craigslist in the $200-$300 range. Yes, that's more then the $50 the OP paid for his saw but they are well worth the extra money IMO. Not only are they infinitely better saws in every way a saw can be judged but they are also safer too IMO.

Looks OK to me, I'm still turning out quality work on my old makita 2708 and rousseau table, the operator is critical in getting nice work out of these things

Thats a good starter saw. it'll do everything a beginer wants to do. As you get more skilled a better TS may be warranted. or not, as mentioned a good operator can make a mediocre saw put out some good work. A hack with a $3k TS will still a hack.

For $50 you did fine OP. It cleaned it up pretty nice as well !!

If the boss also has a Bosch table saw that you can move up to later for $100, then go ahead and take advantage !! ;)

Sounds like a good deal. If you can cut wood with it with decent accuracy then it's worth $50

It's a start and you got a decent base to go with it. I'd avoid ripping any 2x stock with it, there's a good chance you'll burn it up doing that. When you think the thing has died, it has, just don't waste your time trying to fix it, just search CL for an older Cman table saw.

$50 for a small table saw in working order, with the proper fence and miter, a good blade, and a well built dolly? You got an ok+ deal, and are confessing to a crime You did not commit.. But as a condition of your probation; enjoy Your new toy.. Don't forget; this is Garage Journal; You could be tarred and feathered for what you did or didn't do... Might settle for a little wood glue and sawdust instead...

I think you got a good deal, the blade probably would cost half that price. A cheap circular saw costs that much. I like it because it can easily be moved around.

i killed my 100 ryobi ripping 2x6's into strips from 1/8th to 3/8th to level a wall, 12' legnth of material. it over heats pretty quick now, and the blade it jammed in so tight i think i bent the arbor trying to remove it. dont do that and it'll work for you.

i am limited by space to a contractor type saw. i now have my first home thats lacking in garage space. so im selling my large saw and looking for a good used contractor saw. for now i'll just use the shop smith left to me by my grandfather.

+1 on paste wax instead of oil.

For what you paid, you got a better saw than you could have got new for that price. That's not a super powerful saw and yes a good blade helps but it can only help so much with that. I hope you gaged well what you are going to use it for and what you are going to get out of it. A higher end portable will be much more powerful (forget about HP or amps I mean the real world) but if all you need is cutting lumber and ply you will be fine.

Nice find, in my opinion. I paid $20 cash for my Craftsman table top saw back in the mid-80's (husband of the seller had upgraded to a radial arm saw.) Thus far, it's done all that I have wanted it to do. Right now, it's buried in the garage, which is packed full of "stuff" that will someday be organized and arranged.

thanks guys! it cuts very well. the blade is great.

you did ok.
NOW------------ address the empty garage walls issues.

yeah i know. Lord willing out baby girl will be out of the oven come december and I can take care of that sometime in the next few months :)

I at least wanna get insulation up and the electrical done soon so it actually looks like its a work in progress instead of just awful.
