I stopped the Truck

This morning I went to Holiday to fill my pick-up tank and found a 1955 Dime on the ground. I said to myself this may be my lucky day.

I was looking for the Snap-On Truck because I wanted to fill out an old KRA-229 box with a ¼ driver set.

I found the truck at another gas station and asked him if he had a minute. He was able to fill the spaces in my KRA-229 and then I asked him the same question I’ve asked every Snap-On representative for the last four years.
“Have you got anything with a powder Blue handle?” He said, “You mean like a screwdriver?” I said, “Sure, screwdriver, pliers, breaker bars whatever”

He started pulling stuff from his trucks ceiling, the results you see below. I tried to keep a somber look on my face as he dusted each tool and handed it to me.

When he couldn’t find anymore Powder Blue stuff, I said “Is that it?”…..He said “That’s it for the truck, I’ve got more at home” So I’m going to his house tonight at Seven O’clock. That is if my heart keeps beating that long.

Jesus. You can probably throw a ratchet head on a number of those breaker bars no problem. I had an SNH24c breaker that had a ratchet head conversion. You could also remove the handles and put them on newer ratchets. I'd just finished doing this yesterday to 4 of my ratchets. Those are beautiful handles I must admit.

Have any of the previous reps had anything left in stock?

No, everyone I've asked said they sold their last example in the early 1990.
One driver didn't even know what I was talking about and showed me some regular blue screwdrivers. I've even called retired drivers with no luck before.

Nice score
It has been so long since I have seen a hard handle breaker bar that I forgot how cool they looked.

My guy says the same thing to me that he has this and that still some where at his house that never sold, ect..
And I keep telling him how can you ever sell it if it isn't on the truck for sale anyways still waiting for him to dig up a few things

You did not tell us how much you had to spend for all that awesomeness :D

$450.79 including two ¼ extensions (4 and 6”) one universal swivel and three sockets for the KRA-229

By the way, does anyone have any ideas about/how to replace/redo the foam insert in the 229 box? It’s like some of it melted. I want to make a filler so the tools don’t roll around making noise. The new inserts are plastic and not made for my kit.

Maybe it's a "don't ask" situation......

Very cool find...I'm not into blue, but I probably would have bought them myself if I found some......

edit: ^ posted as I was typing....

As for new foam: I'd probably buy some of the tool control foam and make it over myself.

So who sells "tool control" foam?

You could easily sell that reversible blade screwdriver for at least $200 on ebay if interested. I seem to remember one coming up a few months ago and going for $200 - $300. Beautiful color! I have all of the breaker bars and ratchets myself if you want more. Very jealous!

I went to the guys garage (humongous) and we spent three hours looking through everyplace he thought he had more Powder Blue stuff and found two more standard screwdrivers. I was hoping for some complete sets, but I can't complain, it's been a good day.(I also bought a new 3/8 drive stubby ratchet with the flared handle and another new KRA-229 1/4 drive in a metal box, and got two free mini screwdrivers)
Pictures tomorrow.....

Very nice finds... hard to believe he could dig those out of the truck!!! Congrats!!

I'm asking every dealer I can find if they have any red hard handled stuff. It's hit or miss.

I've wondered about that SDS6 part number...looks to be a slimmer screwdriver than normal.

I have three SDS6 screwdrivers they are all the same with a six inch blade. If my micrometer were here I would measure the diameter of the shaft.

I compared all three with an old (1980’s) Black Handled SDS6 and they are the same.

The SDD146 has a six inch blade but the shaft is about half the diameter of the SDS6.

Sorry, I meant that the handle was slimmer than normal.

Man, you’ve got some eyeballs in your head! I laid all four side by side and only then could I see the difference. I’ll post some photos shortly. (you should work for NASA or the IRS)
