Reflectors would be good. Thats pretty dark now. Looks good that way but don't want to get in trouble if it gets hit byba car. Could always say vandels painted it lol.

Its crazy they wouldn't let you paint it. A few years ago the natural gas company that services my home repainted the meter nice dark grey and it stood out hard aginst my white house so i asked them if it was ok to paint it white and they didnt care as long as they could read the numbers.

I saw someone paint their cable pedestal brown to better blend in with a flowerbed that it was located in. As long as they have access to it I don't think they *really* care...

I saw someone painted some pedestal to look like a minion a while back... lol. That was creative.

All this reminds me of the fire hydrants painted like cartoon people.

To the OP
I think your mistake was calling in the first place.
Now you are on record as being told "no"
("Destruction of property.")
A It may become a classic "Beg for forgiveness instead of asking for permission.")

Several years ago the phone/cable companies around here switched all of the pedestal cabinets over a period of 2 years to metal cabinets that were light green from fiberglass cabinets that were dark green. At the time I was moonlighting for the Electrical company as a locator. I asked one of the phone construction bosses why they were doing it and he told me because the dark greens were getting so much hotter inside because of the dark color and they were experiencing faster break down of wiring and connections inside the pedestals. Do not know if that was true or just something someone guessed at.

My 500 gallon propane tank was rusty. It's theirs so I asked them to paint it. Months later I called and they said they are getting to it. Months later I called and said come and get it. Their loss I guess.

around here that thing would be smashed flat. my phone box is way back off the roadway, up against the fence. Not that it matters, We don't have a landline.

The color doesn't bother me as much as that it is out of plum. Any chance you could throw a level on it so that I can get some sleep this week?

The light VS dark thing may have some validity - our electric traffic light controller boxes are natural aluminum for the same reason. Our phone boxes are all painted white. Plus it makes it easier to find.

Being on a corner like that, I'm surprised someone hasn't already run it over. :pimpflash

I like the Pez Dispenser (find a manequin head, put a batman mask on it for the top)... I'd do it in like a brick pattern, so it looked like something other than a big ugly green communications box.

Lawyers..... "The increased temperature inside the box due to the darker paint absorbing heat has caused premature failure of the wiring and devices in said box." Mr. Painter Guy, Here's your bill for replacement...

I agree with Iron-Iceberg... the out of plumb issues would drive me off the wall.

I would expect a natural aluminum box to actually be hotter inside than the same box painted black. Aluminum has a very low emissivity compared to any paint. Of course, white will keep the inside coolest.

Aluminum however is also notoriously difficult to paint. And peeling and blistering paint on aluminum is certainly something that would get complaints. Leaving it natural is probably the cheapest option both short and long term, as it would never require repainting.

The boxes here that are within 3 feet of the road are either hit missing a cover or smashed. I have seen the companies work in them and just re wrap them in duct tape when done.

This may be no BS. Suddenlink set a box in a growing neighborhood that ended up in a driveway for a new house. Owner did the "right thing" and called Sudeenlink to move it out of the way. Wire maybe 12" deep - $3000 to move it 10' in the direction the cable was already coming from, no cuts or splice. Lesson for next time - dig it up, throw it into the next lot, disavow any knowledge.

If they nag just tell them some kids spray painted a wiener on it so you covered it up with what you had.

And yea, that's too dark imho. Too obvious in the day, too hard to see at night. I agree with the plant ideas. Couple of pompas grass clumps and that thing is gone!

I'd just plant tall grass or bushes around it

Just remember when they come to work on it if the Tech is a "****" he can just rip the plantings out and throw them to the side as they have no responsibility to replace them.

Metal, fiberglass, black, white, natural, they all make one hell of a mess with a lot of noise when you go over them with a 15' rotary cutter. Been there, done that, got the tee shirt

They might not appreciate you painting their property.

The gas meter at my house was painted same flat brown color as the siding when I bought the place. One day a year or so later I noticed it had a fresh coat of industrial gloss gray paint. No word from the gas company, not even a note on the door... they just showed up and painted it when I wasn't home or wasn't aware.

I'll take that as a sign that they don't want their gas meter painted by the homeowner.

I had my gas meter replaced with a larger one when I had my backup generator installed. Gas company placed the new meter and had to run some new pipe for it, which they painted. Guy gave me the rest of the (basically full) can of industrial paint when he was done. I use it for touchups.

I also paint the huge cable box and some other utility thingy sticking up in the yard, along with the water meter box covers, and the fire hydrant on the other side of the yard. Utility stuff gets dark green Rustoleum, and the hydrant gets metallic silver Rustoleum (to match the original color).

I like to keep things looking snappy in the yard:beer:

Get one of those fiberglass well covers that look like a boulder and put it over it.

There, your leaning issue is solved!

LMAO we were playing miniature golf once, and put a fake fiberglass boulder over one hole. The group behind us went nuts looking for the hole. I can imagine the phone guys trying to find the box!!
