Those prices are pretty good for the pipe if you can pickup in person, but with shipping not so much. Also, doesn't look like they will sell you small quantity of 1 1/2" pipe which is what I'd recommend.

Prices for risers and Constab connectors are too high IMHO. I got much better pricing from wholesale supplier Groebner & Assoc in Kansas City area. I think you should do more checking around for wholesale supplier in your area.

See post # 12 of this thread where I posted details of my prices for 1" supplies. I drove 3 hours with utility trailer to pick up all my materials.

See also this thread by fellow GJer . . Madosta . . in Michigan who put in yellow PE pipe recently. He might have supplier for you to consider.

CRITICAL thing to make sure you get . . . SAME sizing of pipe and risers. Most common for residential use is . . . IPS . . . . Iron Pipe Size. This is thick wall pipe.

As luck would have it I found a supply house two miles from my house that had everything I needed including a tracer wire for under $250. They were great to work with as well. For those in my area:

Having a 120,000 BTU heater sounds like overkill to me. I have a 24X36 garage with R-19 insulation in the walls and R-30 in the ceiling. I have a 60,000 BTU Hot Dawg natural gas heater and that size is plenty big for my garage.

I agree 100%, but I cannot find a quality condensing HWH that is small enough for my needs. Everyone says the Takagi units are great, but 120k is the smallest they make, at least that I have seen. If anyone has any suggestions I am all ears.

From what other people are saying the gas company will not accommodate this, no? Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying.

Gas company guys around here are a bunch of a$$holes usually. Some aren't. We always tell the customer to tell them they need more volume for the house IE a backup generator. That way Vectren isn't trying to get another hook up fee and skin ya some more.

Unfortunately I do need a bigger meter. I have a 250k now and need a 400k. So far consumers energy has been great to work with, we will see. I was told I will probably have to pay more per cf even if I do not use any more, just because of the larger meter. Makes absolutely no sense, but I don't really have a choice

Don't get snookered into paying MORE per cf just because you have larger meter. That is lifetime of price gouging !!! :eyecrazy:

Offer to buy your own meter direct from the manufacturer, if GasCo keeps giving you "story" about the higher price. Since it's their job to provide the meter, it makes no sense to raise your per cf pricing.

I can guarantee you that businesses with larger meter are NOT paying higher per cf just because of the meter. Likely businesses are paying much LESS than residential.

Talk to your state's Utility Commission, if necessary, to convince GasCo to do the right thing and keep your per cf pricing the same. Good luck.

It makes no sense to me either. If you need a larger meter it just means you will be using more and you will have a larger bill.

I am not a lawyer so this may be totally wrong, but it would seem to me it would illegal for the gas company to charge residential customers different prices per cubic foot of gas. I can see where LARGE users of natural gas (big business) would get a discounted price due to the high volume of natural gas hey are using, but I would think residential customers would all pay the same price per cubic foot.

The gas company supplies the meter and there is a monthly "meter charge" so I could MAYBE see a little higher monthly "meter charge" because of the larger meter. But I don't understand the higher charge per cubic foot because it makes no sense at all. If anything, you should get a discount per cubic for using a larger volume.

Can't seem to get a hold of the person from consumers that is going to do the switch so I am not sure on the price yet. My brother told me a friend down the street from him got a larger meter and they are charging him more per CF. We will see. I will post back as soon as I know for sure.

I didn't know I could buy my own meter so that could also be an option, thanks.

They will not bump up pressure for residential , it take a lot to get commercial pressure bumped . Gas company would not budge .

Yeah, but you've got a different gas co in Munising than he has in Troy. Down here, Consumers or DTE is probably who he has, and we don't know if they will. 2lb is not that high a psi.

Edit: I read further down the thread and see he's Consumers now. They're a good company and will likely work with him. I interned for them in college, and they've been VERY accommodating on my weird power requirements.
