I think I'm going to need a bigger (stronger) toolbox

I've been trying to pick up some more tools lately. Mostly because I have little to no metric tools and I need them to preform maintanance on my Honda.

I went off the deep end and picked up a 299pc Craftsman socket set, and my poor little craftsman easy glide tool box that I've had since I was 12 finally gave up.

Well used to keep the wrenches in the bottom drawer and the 50 or so 3/8" and 1/4" drive sockets I had before today in a smaller one, but since the 300 additional sockets the came today needed more room, I switched to the bottom drawer.

Looks like I'll have to hit the after Christmas sales for a bigger box.

I've been wanting that set too, can I ask how much did you pay? I saw some where someone paid $286+tax for it a few days ago, but that was probably on turkey day sale still. I'll have to wait till next year to pick it up, no way am I paying full retail when they go on mega sale once a year.

I have the 263 piece set but it's got a lot of those hex pieces and small wrenches, kinda useless. That will double my sockets in some but I could either sell 'em on ebay to recoup some or keep them for S's&G's. For $300 I would buy it, it seems have pretty much every socket you would ever need.

Doesn't have to be a ball bearing drawer. Depends more on the strength of the metal of the box and drawer. Strong slides are important too but not mandatory they are ball bearing.

I have the complete setup (top, intermediate chest, lower cabinet) similar to the OP's box. It was all I could afford when I first started working on cars years ago. I eventually had to retire it to light duty home use after I bent many of the slide guides on the lower cabinet due to too much weight. When I took it apart to inspect the slide issue, I also discovered that I had so much weight in it that the box actually sunk around the casters roughly 1/4".

If I remember correctly, I paid $199 for the entire setup brand new in the late 90's and I used it for many years (actually still have it) so I would say it doesn't owe me anything.

haha well I figure tools are a bit more useful then arms, so I can see this going downhill real fast.

the hf 40" box will work good for you. i have a 1" ratchet, 2 3/4" 2 1/2" 5 3/8" ratchets full 1/2 set full 3/8 set some 1/4" sockets rolls like a dream. its about as organized as your shoe box though LOL

Barfcom, ha ha. Be careful with the tools, it's way to easy to justify new tools for anything and they're even easier to find the rifle parts but just as if not more expensive depending on your taste. From the looks of those sticker you have expensive taste too.

My only concern is the drawers being big enough to fit enough Hansen socket trays in (1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drives, standard and deep, 6pt and 12pt, standard and metric adds up to a lot of sockets). The 56" model is probably a little big for my needs right now, but the 43" model is looking like it might work, until I upgrade to something like a Snap On.

i'd want a little more storage so the next time i bought a set of sockets/wrenches/pliers/screwdrivers/hammers/chisels/prybars
i'd have someplace to put them.
in 86 when i bought my kr550/555, i thought i'd never fill it up, and would never have to buy another toolbox.
