So I had astron rs-50a on the good old Craigslist up for sale or for trade and didn’t have much interest in any buyers. Until I got an email of a guy asking me if he would trade for a vise. He sent me a price of a box
To a Wilton vise that was not
Opened. He said it was model 1745. I was think what is it some
Knock off or beat to hell. I told they guy sure. So I went at met him and came home with this. What do you guys think. Good deal on me end.

And came
Home
With this IMG_1713.jpg

There is a small part on the side of the jaws that has some surface rust witch I already took care of. Now just need to find the matching color pair. It’s brand new. It’s the nicest vise I have ever owned and used. All of my
Vises have been hand me downs from my dad or Craigslist free finds that I rebuild.
This think really hold items well.

I bought a 1745 new off Amazon in 2009 for $270. It's the perfect size for my workbench in the basement.

Since yours brand new, wind the dynamic jaw all the way out and have a look inside at the back of the nut. Wiltons often come from the factory with some shavings hanging out in the grease in the back of the nut. Leftovers from the machining process.

Enjoy!

I think you did just fine. The vise is in great condition and recently 1745's have been going up in value.

Your Astron RS-50 would typically get approx $150 on the used market and that's about what a 1745 is typically selling for and sometimes selling for way more, sometimes less.

Hearing how much you like the vise pretty much says you've done well. Enjoy and nice job

I pulled
It out and didn’t see anything but then again I wasn’t really looking to hard. So I will check it out thanks for the heads up. So far it’s a great little vise.

Oh, and the Tradesman line has moved off shore. So the USA made ones are NLA, as new.

Good to know I was thinking about flipping it for some cash but I think I will keep it now and sell my other vises. I wish companies didn’t keep doing that. I wish if they currently are manufactured here they kept it here until
It was not possible regardless of the money. People are willing to pay more for good quality USA made tools and what not. But it’s said the manufacture process here in the US seem like they are slipping and is some cases it doesn’t justify the cost difference, well with some companies anyways. Hope things change for the bad in the future.

Astron rs-50a can be questionable for various purposes, vise will always squeeze and sharpen a chain saw. Depends on your veiwpoint.

What ever you traded the for the vice has a very limited shelf life. That vice will be with you to the grave if treated right so yeah you did good.
