You can RATE threads you like...giving it 5 stars indicates to others that you think it is a worthy thread.

He's talking about individual posts, and not necessarily threads. I've seen this too, as well as reputation and usefulness systems where you can "thank" a post or member individually.

Yes, individual posts. For example, many times, there will be a thread topic that I'm only sort-of interested in. I click on it, and read through the replies. Ho hum, a bunch of things I already know, and all viewpoints I'm already familiar with.

And then, buried in the thread, there is a reply that someone obviously took a lot of time on, and that has a lot of good information. A "Like" button is great in this scenario, so that I can tell that poster "thanks" for a good post.

Yep seen those likes on other forums that put some measurement on whether people thought the post solved the problem or whatever.

But . . . . . pleeeeeaaaaassssseee do NOT , absolutely , do NOT,

put any Facebook **** on GJ . . . never, ever, never !!

FB is biggest internet hog of resources ever unleashed. Initial loads of webpages take forever as they're trying to grab any FB cookies / preferences or whatever. I think browers need a DISABLE Facebook option!!

It also promotes members to make useful post as everyone strive to gain reputation. It was the first thing I looked for after reading a very helpful post.
