I bought this a long time ago at princess auto ( Canadian version of harbor freight). I've had it 7-8 years and never had a problem and it is my most used ratchet. They don't even sell it anymore. The only problem I have with it is that it has a pretty course tooth count, which probably explains how it has lasted so long.

What I am looking for is this ratchet with a higher tooth count. I was looking at the 84 tooth Gearwrench ratchets but they are missing a key feature, the SOCKET RELEASE BUTTON. I really like this feature since it allows me to release a socket or extension with one hand.

Is there anything that will fit the bill?

I guess I should have been more clear. I'd like this style of ratchet in a better quality with a higher tooth count.

Take a look at the Gearwrench based Husky's from Home Depot. 72 tooth with a smaller head than the Kobalt.

actual Kobalt review...

"I'm a professional mechanic who normally buys off the tool trucks.
A co-worker bought this set and we compared them head to head with a $75.00 Snap-** ratchet.
The features that I liked the most were the push button socket retention, the flex head detention and the fine tooth ratcheting operation which the other ratchet didn't have.
An excellent value with outstanding quality, so I purchased two sets."

....I'm sold for $18!

The Lowes Kobalt option is very nice for the money.

The snap on version of that ratchet with comfort grip handle is on special for 50 bucks until the end of the year. Make friends with someone who has access to SEP pricing. If only they'd let me buy more than one :(

What turns you off about the Kobalt? I'm curious; everyone has their likes and dislikes.

Nothing in particular. In fact, If the kobalt is the same ratchet I had for 8yrs Id be very happy with it in general. I doubt mine has the 72 teeth tho. I'm gonna check lowes this weekend to see if they have one.

However, I'd like to try something with a higher tooth count, even higher than 72, and typically the cheaper ratchets don't have that feature, and generally they are not as smooth operating.

You may also want to look at Titan and EZ Red.

+1 on this. I just started using a Pro-Point similar to that. So far so good, but I've only had it a month or two, and haven't really stressed it yet.

SMKS, if the Titan you are referring to are the ones with the black and yellow handle, they were also sold at Princess Auto, they came in a 3 pack of extra long flex head (1/4, 3/8, 1/2) I believe they were 36 tooth, they were alright. I had issues with the 3/8 (being most used) the torx screw that fastened the head to the handle at the pivot back off often, one day to the point that one side was disengaged, and I broke the single side that was fastened. So I roll into Princess Auto a few minutes before close, broken ratchet (and receipt) in hand, go grab the pro-point, explain to the youngest cashier working that titan was just a special, and walk out with my 3/8 long flex head pro point ratchet.

Went from Titan, 36 tooth, to Pro Point 72 tooth. I reefed on these for months, but since I am an orange-sloot, I started building my long orange hard handle flex head snap on set.

I kept snap-on at work and took the others home.

For $130 snap-on is nice to look at and use, for 19.99 or whatever they are, pro-point is nice to use.

Just my opinion, I have not worn either the pro point or the snap-on out, or broken them.
