I'd watch the local Craigslist or search through used office equipment stores for something like this: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/tls/1024139686.html

ive been checking on my local craigslists, havent seen anything decent. I want the open type, and kind of want to make them. I have access to cnc machinery, sheet metal forming equipment, and welding so I wanted to make something unique. I just dont really know where to start as far as design goes.

I would recomend that you either buy the pigeon hole type or buy some toolboxes and use the drawers to stock the bolts

I dont have a picture but I have a small tool box and every nut and bolt goes into it except the real small stuff, those go into a small plastic box. My old school neighbor used glass jars and had the lids fastened to a plank nailed above his bench. He could see what kind of bolts ,nuts were in each and would just unscrew the jar to get to them. It worked for him.

This isn't anything close to what you sound like you want, but I've been toying around with something like this:

A little back story-when I was a kid, my mom seen something like this (only much larger) in some magizine, and thought it was a good idea. Pretty much the same thing, only 5 gallon buckets instead of coffee cans, and that was where socks and undies and things went. Kinda like a chest-of-drawers, if you got back far enough and closed your eyes. But the scaled-down version works pretty good for small stuff.
