No not really. I suspected the other guy had a max bid of somewhere in the $60.00 range; so I was absolutely shocked to find out I was in the lead. :eek2:

My point, If I thought it was $60.00 and that was to high then I would not have bidded.

Yeah but if I hadn't of bidded, I would've never known his max bid was not in the $60.00 range.

PS. Did you know that for some strange reason according to the dictionary, the word "bidded" is not considered to be a word?

Son, that's because the past tense of bid is "bid".

I did that a few weeks ago, not by accident so much, but by "surprise".

I bid on one of these: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&productId=100429672&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=100429672&cm_mmc=1hd.com2froogle-_-product_feed-_-D25X-_-100429672

I threw in a $80 bid, figured I would never get it, won the thing for $67.:bounce:

I use it so much at work that I want one for the house soooo bad now.

Bidding just for the sake of raising the price without intending to win is just childish - I don't care how old you are.

So maybe you have learned your lesson now that you have to pay for your mistake.

It was not my intention at all to raise the price; my intension was to find the max bid range; raising the price was a SIDE EFFECT of me trying to find the max bid range.

If you look at the bid history, you'll notice I only made 3 bids total, but if it makes you feel better to hate me; that's your business.

Side effect? It sure would've have felt like a 'side effect' if you managed to 'find' his max bid price, which you never really could without admin powers on ebay. The 'side effect' might very well piss you off one day if you think someone simply makes you pay more because they were 'trying to find your max bid'.

I can understand your anger, but you should know that next time I'll be bidding with one single max bid and that's it. This auction was a way for me to learn something. And by the way, you should remember that the guy that finally ended up paying is me.

Wow, 700+ postings since Dec. No wonder you don't have time to learn about ebay bidding? Right, you bid without the intention of winning as stated in your first post on this thread. You might try reading the information on ebay about how to bid before you try it again. Next time it might be your max bid that someone wants to find. Hopefully, they can figure it out before they hit your ceiling. If you don't want something, don't bid. It's pretty simple that way and it will allow you more time for posting important topics.

my .02 worth.

Enjoy the ratchet.:lol_hitti

I stayed awake until around 6:00AM in the morning hoping someone would come along and outbid me; it never happened! I was absolutely flabbergasted as to why no one bid; after all, the retail price was supposed to be $129.00.

I'm convinced now that if I ever want to win another auction, I'll check the calendar first to see if it's ending in the wee hours of Sunday morning. :D

Yeah, I did that fairly recently. I've only been dinking around on eBay since 1998, but just had to bid on this lot of old brass garden hose nozzles.

I figured...they are brass...and probably worth more in scrap than the max bid....so I threw in a bid and nobody outbid me!

Now I have old brass garden hose nozzles for every hose around the house with some to spare.

Dammit. It is a sickness.

You state in your first post that you won by accident - that your intention was not to win the auction... So, if you had not bid, then it is likely that phil7228 would have won the auction at $16.53. If his max bid had been higher and you had not bid past your third bid, it would have raised his price to $33.88 - increasing his price by $17.35.

I'm not saying I hate you, but bidding when you don't actually intend to win just isn't right. Auctions are not games... In my example above, if you had not won you would have still cost the other bidder nearly $20 because of your actions. Granted, someone else could have come along and bid if you did not.
But in the end it is good that you did win rather than just raising the price for someone else.
