Ice freezer for home use?

There is a $25 ice cream cooler on CL. Caravell 445-935, Could this be used as a chest freezer for the home? It seems well made. Are these energy efficient? It seems to me that a commercial freezer would be better than a cheap home home.

Do you have some specs to provide or the listing? Does it tell you the year it has been made in? If its older than 10 years than its not Energy Star 2.X compliant. It may still be Energy Star, but not based on the new low power model.

I don't think single glass pane of glass is very efficient. Maybe it has a dual pane...

I looked into this several years ago.

Commercial coolers and freezers are NOT energy efficient, they have surprisingly little insulation. A home freezer is several times more energy efficient.

You could insert some Styrofoam insulation to the glass. But, that doesn't tell you how much power its going to consume etc. You could purchase a cheap watt meter and measure it and decide if the long term costs are worth it.

For $25.** you can't go wrong and can always resell it if its not your liking.

You still will have the aluminum frame that is a huge heat sink.

Well, I am sure there has to be some insulation on that unit. How much I really couldn't say. Worse case scenario the OP could wrap the entire unit in insulation if he was so inclined.
