16x16x24 box, 1/4 inch plate, 6 inch chimney.
Made for a couple I fish with. They were married in '72.
Yes it's way, way too thick, but it's what they wanted and provided the steel.
Door handle from a chipping hammer.
Been making this pattern for a while. Always works well, even when old and rusty. The angled latch makes sure the door gets pulled in tight and seals well. Always make the door bigger than the opening (don't reuse the cut out piece).
Also, make the slider able to full pull out to help with cleaning out schmoo and such. Two nuts welded to the door provide a bushing, while a smaller bolt and nut provide the pivot, easy to adjust to the right tension then weld the latch on, close the door then weld the handle on where you want it.
I always build the front first complete with door so I have access to weld both sides. I've also left the top off for last again for access to inside while figuring out the latch.
