I grabbed one yesterday on sale. I really wanted a blue one, but my local store was sold out. I finally spotted three black lights in an Icon display at the front of the store, and snagged one of those.

I bought one when these things came out, and it's been fantastic. MUCH tougher than the original stick light (which is still on the shelf).

I really wonder why they were blowing these out like this -- is something better on the way? This was a completely new way to have a sale, so I also wonder if it was sort of an experiment.

And no, I didn't buy anything else while I was there, but then again I was in a hurry to get somewhere else.

And so of course I got the guy who wasted aeons trying unsuccessfully to slooooooooooowly type in my phone number, then kept trying to enter it into the wrong place, then just stopped and stared into space for a good long while once the total was ready. I had to remind him to punch the button on the register so I could pay. And no, he wasn't high... I'm pretty sure he's just, you know, like that. Most of the people at my local HF are actually pretty sharp.

But that's all beside the point. It's a damn nice light, $20 is a steal, and I'm happy to have a second one.

The ICON light doesnt have Quick-Charge or even charge protocols programmed onto the board, so it's not going to charge from anything that's high power USB-C to USB-C or data ports like a computer. You'll need a USB-A to USB-C cable and wall adapter.

This was my biggest gripe with this light. I was able to fix it by adding two resistors to the board to make it compliant with the USB-PD standard. Now the light charges from any USB-C charger or computer port.

For anyone interested, you need a 5.1k resistor connecting each of pins CC1 and CC2 to ground. There are six pins on the USB-C connector and these are the center two. Should have come this way from the factory but Harbor Freight cheaped out.

I have three of the Icon's and five Bauer's. Even though I turned the Icon light around, I think the Bauer is better overall. The Icon beats the Bauer by quite a bit in run time and might be a little brighter but loses out in user friendliness.

HF is blowing these out one day only for $19.99. And a cool mod for those that would prefer to change the light and it also shows that you can change the battery if you really want to.

THANKS. Never thought to try that and looks easy enough.

I bought one of these and I was very annoyed at the larger light you most commonly want to use being on the wrong side for most reasonable uses. Seems incredibly stupid. This mod should make it much more useful.
